manontheinside
(from Essex FA website) good chance to assess the strength of the ESL to Ryman as Forest were 4th from bottom in the RLN. Third from bottom Ilford play Barking next week, 4th placed Tilbury play Basildon, 7th placed Heybridge play Hullbridge and 3rd placed Aveley take on Takeley -------------- Waltham Forest 8-1 Bowers & Pitsea, Wednesday 24th October 2012, Cricklefield Stadium, Kick-Off 7:45pm, Essex Senior Cup supported by BBC Essex Third Round. A ruthless second-half performance from Waltham Forest secured a welcome Essex Senior Cup supported by BBC Essex Third Round victory over Bowers & Pitsea at the Cricklefield Stadium, Manu Dagher, Tunde Adewunmi and Corey Whitely helping themselves to a brace each. The 2006-winners netted six without reply after the interval to register a comprehensive victory over their Essex Senior League visitors. Substitutes Dave Bryan and Joel Palmer also got on the score sheet. It was in the 23rd minute that the Ryman League Division One North hosts took the lead as Whitely’s swinging cross was powerfully headed in by Dagher from close range. Bowers pulled themselves back into the tie on 35, though, as George Shelvey made amends for an earlier miss as he curled a lovely finish into the bottom corner from 15 yards. The equaliser signalled a bright period for the visitors, but crucially it was Forest who stole the half time initiative as Dagher squeezed a low shot home at the near post six minutes before the interval. They extended that advantage just two minutes after the break, setting the tone for the second period as Whitely fired along the floor and inside the near post. The fourth arrived on 64 when Adewunmi benefitted from a fine advantage by the referee, following a foul on Adrian Retkoceri, to neatly chip the ball into the net over goalkeeper Michael Doyle. Adewumni quickly completed his double four minutes later, seizing upon an error by Doyle to slot into an unguarded net. A fine save from Doyle kept out Palmer’s close-range strike following Whitely’s strong run and cross before Forest stopper Aaron Omond pulled off a brilliant save to tip Jamie Clarke’s 20-yard effort over the crossbar. However, despite Bowers’ efforts, Forest grabbed a sixth on 75 as another Whitely assist teed-up Bryan to dink home. Bowers twice came close to a consolation. Firstly Lloyd Wilson’s drive brought another fine stop from Omond, with the resulting corner seeing another Wilson effort deflected onto the crossbar by Calvin Poku. The final scoreline was emphasised by two final-minute strikes. Palmer picked up a loose ball before rifling in the seventh then the scoring was completed as the impressive Whitely brilliantly volleyed Dagher’s cross into the roof of the net.
