WORST CLUB EXPERIENCE

Doorknob

Recommended Posts

With all the latest comings and goings through the leagues and latest headlines in the press (serbia) whats the worst thing you have experienced at a club?

They way a club was run or the fans that watched. Or maybe the players or management.

I went to watch a CC1 prem game a few weeks back and I could not believe the crowd were abusing the lino from kick off, even before a decision or goal had been scored.

Yours?.......

3 spring to mind.

1 - On the line in a local derby in Ryman 2. Wet and cold day. Game ended. showers didnt work. Person working the bar in the boardroom called the match referee a "Kent" in the boardroom after the game.

2 - Another Ryman 2 game on the line when for no particular reason a supporter who I would say was around 60 spent the entire game abusing me and in the 2nd half it got to the point he actually called me a paedo on more than one occasion. It was at that point the person next to him actually told him to shut up. He was in the boardroom when we went in and I complained to the teams chairman about him at that point.

3 - A CCL game again where a spectator stood behind me for the entire 2nd half and called me a "kent" around 30 to 40 times !! Complained to the club chairman at the end of the game.

These are 3 of the worst but fortunately the good memories far ourweigh these ones in my 15/16 years of officiating on Ryman and CCL.

Worst match I have ever attended was known as the Battle of the Corbet Field. It was in the Island games, Guernsey v Rhodes. There was history of ill feeling betwwen the two sides after previous meetings. But this match took it to a new height. The island games are known as the friendly games... Well Rhodes, kicked, spat, punched ther way through the match and ended up having 5 players sent off, causing the match to be abaonded. The referee had to be escorted off the pitch such was the hostility shown towards her. It was plain from the kick off the match would never go the distance and the Rhodes players were pretty disgusted that a woman (Wendy Toms) was in charge. The team pulled out of the tournament (before they were kicked) and IMO should have been banned for a long time.

As a player: Malvern Town - never got paid for the nine games I played for them. Always SOME reason why there was never money.

As a fan: Same club. Unfriendly, don't welcome new fans, players couldn't pass water - no effort or guts.

Yes, I know....non CCL (gets out the flagellation whip thing...)

I have been invloved in some pretty horendous incidents with teams, team mates and officials but the worst thind I have seen was at a kids match where an under 11 team who thought they could never be beaten (mostly the parents) were beaten the parents actually chased after the ref (who was about 16) with one of the corner flags and then surrounding him and his mum in her car the lad had an excellent game but they couldn.t control their anger because they had lost it was shocking to see.

Ha ha, that was laughable!

I think the Biggleswade webmaster was the biggest knob end when on the following Monday he put on your homepage 'Croydon Fans destroy perimeter fence after loss'

When one of the Croydon officials phoned your club up and challenged the allegation as several of the Croydon committee were amongst the group of alleged 'hooligans' suddenly the posting was taken down from the Biggleswade website.

Obviously not used to an atmosphere at your home matches and considered some away fans singing as an act of thuggery!
