I am Spartacus
CK had a massive POSITIVE from last night. He now knows what his negatives are and can start turning them into positives.
dflman
If you wanted to test out forwards would you not put a stronger midfield behind them so they can actually have the ball coming through in different guises - if you want to test out the midfield would you not put stronger defence behind them or stronger forwards in front of them so their skills can be seen ? Putting a team of trialists and unknowns out against a strong opposition can only have one result surely ? That new number 9 must have been most disheartened (as could be seen during the last ten minutes that he was on the pitch)
DEREK
Dos'nt give the lads in the reserves much of an insentive by bringing in trialists, if all the non-first teamers want to play for the club should it be they who play in our second team ? Any views on this point.

michael
A bit confused by your post Derek-i thought there were 4/5 from the reserves who actually played last night: matless, freedma, barham mitchell-unused sub. The only trialists were the unfortunate tuohy-who seems to have a good pedigree, and kedze. Not sure of the 'status' of CKKjnr-as don't think he has played in reserves this season-althouh i think he did a couple of years ago. I do not know-but suspect a few of the reserves train with first team from time to time-so CK will be looking at them-so frankly-seems they are given a chance but have to be both good enough-and strong enough -maybe they are'nt quite either ? massive leap from kent league one to ryman premier I
DEREK
Just trying to get opinions, mine is that if the players who are on the books and don't get selected for the 1st team are avaliable then they should be in the reserves, that includes CK jnr, Alabi, and anyone else who is not chosen to sit on the bench. I do believe that was the original idea of a reserve team.
Coffin Ender
I'd rather players like that were loaned out to Ryman South teams.
dflman
Could it be with reserves that they should be up and coming players wanting to get into the first team by playing better in reserve team fixtures than a first team player, in their specific position, If so there should be a reserves team league of some kind (call it what you like). Some time ago Newcastle Utd stopped having a reserve team if I recall correctly and the rot started with players not getting through by the usual route and required first teamers being purchased from outside. Then there is the question of players on the bench - are they from the reserves or first team squad for injury cover who just happen never to get a game in which case playing in the reserves could be a better option to get noticed ?
