Coffin Ender
So what do we think the crowd will be? England game...league cup...no away fans...umpteenth home game in a few weeks... I say 75.
AncientBlue
200+ as all the real die-hards will be there as always, plus a few who watched England play last week - that was almost like watching the gate play in those losses that have now passed into history. blue balls
Ha -79 - our lowest attendance for some years surely. Just shows the complete lack of interest in this meaningless competition. Having said that wasn't expecting such a humiliating scoreline. Badly need to get back to winning ways on Saturday or will start to get worried. Coffin Ender
Some cracking crowds tonight - 27 at Redbridge, 55 at Thurrock, 82 at Canvey...
Jab_n17
think like mentioned by CE to many home games on the bounce, closely followed by the lack of interest in this cup game
Coffin Ender
And the winners are Thamesmead who had 25 tonight.
michael
Are you actually focusing on the right thing here ? Yep-attendance disappointing-but this cup competition comes into its own in the new year in the later rounds. Cup success has a knock on effect. It is a good opportunity to play those not getting regular games (but maybe not all at once-as tonight showed !! Most disappointing is the result itself-winning (and losing ) become habits, and raise/lower all round confidence and momentum-whatever the competition. so yes-disappointed to be out of 3 cups all in the matter of 3 and a bit weeks-with every lielihood it will be a fourth exit in another 10 days. No matter what-that ain't clever-and above average teams simply do not do that

Wellsie
By common consensus, this competition needs either a drastic re-vamp or cutting completely. All it does is cost clubs and supporters money. Met Polcie could end up playing away at Lowestoft on a Tuesday night in the next round - it's simply ludicrous. This is why the competiton gets the level of attention it does; and let's be clear - I mean clubs and supporters here. The scoreline really wasn't important and by losing as early as possible, minimises the amount of money lost by the club by playing in it. The competition only comes into its own in the final, and even then, I wonder what the P&L on the journey is?
margate lad
Got to agree with Wellsie. I believe it gave CK the chance of a couple of things last night. One was to give the lads that have been playing nearly every Tuesday and Saturday, a rest with important league games coming up. Im sure we would all agree that the League is much more important than the League Cup. It also gave him a chance to look at players that haven't been playing regularly and for them to show him what they can do and not forgetting some of the younger players that could possibly be part of the first team in time to come.I know we would all like to win every game but sometimes, i think we have to look at the bigger picture. dflman
Maybe everyone is correc tabout the importance BUT the 79 of us paid money to see our team compete in a match. What about us ?
SteveB
I agree with what has been posted and much mirrors what I put in another thread (including using Lowestoft as an example!). Facing facts, the clubs are not interested in the competition as the crowds they get do not cover costs. The games come thick and fast at this time of year so most Premier Division clubs are going to field weakened sides just to give people a rest. Also, by my reckoning, there are 10 league games still without a date (I will check in a minute for definite and update the site) and surely they would be better suited to be played this time of year rather than possibly get caught in a fixture backlog. The average League Cup attendance for ties featuring Premier Division Clubs is 94. The League average is 318. Last night's local(ish) derby betweeen Hastings and Lewes attracted 157 fans. The league game between them last year attracted 689. I seem to recall that back in the Conference days, they scrapped their League Cup for the very reasons mentioned. Wellsie
still rate the competition, but yep there are too many games at this time of season why can't it be played between december and april Becasue anyone with even a slight interest in play-offs or the relegataion battle - so everyone except about 2 clubs in each division - will be even less interested than now. For me, it's either regionalised knock with say 4 thrugh to the semis, or scrap it. With crowds and team selection it's clear what the clubs and supporters think of the competition and to ignore that seems to me to be an odd think to do.
