Dutch_Mike
Much better than recent home performances, and very unlucky not to win, in my opinion. Although we weren't at our best, we were by far the better team, and they were fortunate to snatch a point. I'm sick of incompetent officiating - that's two games in a row where the performance of the referee has had an influence on the result. He was just waiting to give them something in that second half, and the best he could do was keep playing until they scored, which he duly did. Looking at other results in our league, it shows how strange some of the results can be (Wealdstone drawing at home with Thurrock, Bury losing at home to Harrow, anyone?), and we haven't lost too much ground, but it's still disappointing to lose two points so late on in the game. Still, onwards and upwards, the boys were unlucky today, and we are still rooted firmly in those playoffs. I await plenty of people coming on here, complaining about something or other

P.W.
Lewes were the only side likely to score in the second half, I thought we'd done just enough to hold them - then ....
dannyriding
Lewes were the only side likely to score in the second half, I thought we'd done just enough to hold them - then .... ............. the referee added god knows how many extra minutes until they scored was the remainder of that statement. To blame the officiating staff would be wrong of me, but in all honesty they were SHOCKING ...............
Dutch_Mike
I really couldn't see them scoring, personally. It wasn't like Holloway was pulling off save after save; even their goal took a fortunate deflection. I thought, as I said, although we weren't brilliant, we did enough to warrant all three points
marksandwell
I thought we played well we controlled the game for the majority of play. Bodkin put in a good account shows why he should be playing much much more, MC had a cracking game. Like to see Tommy Murphy with more physical aggression. Overall an Margate played better, should have taken all 3 points but hey ho...
SteveB
To be honest, their equaliser came about 20 seconds short of the 4 minutes that were announced. Not sure where 4 minutes came from though. A bit disappointed to only get a point, especially with the time of their goal and the fact that we could have put the game to bed long before. However, the first half we were better than at any time against Concord, Slough or Maidstone. We started all guns blazing and that put them on the backfoot for the first 45 (which genius suggested that tactic in another thread?). The second half didn't reach the heights of the first (perhaps gave it too much in the first) but we still had chances to wrap it up. Also felt that Bodkin showed why we have been screaming for his inclusion. The ball through for Long's goal was excellent. A win would have been nice but one league defeat in eight, sitting in a play-off spot with games in hand over the three teams directly above us is still the best start for a while. On the officiating front, can someone tell me where to find the rule that states 'if, due to a communication error between a goalkeeper and defender, an opposing player legitimately takes advantage and slots the ball into the net, the goal shall not count and the player who scored it must be shown a yellow card'? Coffin Ender
I thought our performance was OK, not brilliant, but OK. First half, 1-0 was a fair reflection. Second half, Lewes started very strongly but, oddly, they faded after they made a substitution (did anyone else see their player seem to strike one of their staff after he went off?) We then had a more comfortable spell then Lewes had a final push for an equaliser and got it. I thought we didn't do enough second half to merit the three points. Obviously a second goal would have been crucial and Bodkin ought to have taken that one-on-one. MoM for me was Corneille. Did lots of work and won lots of tackles. blueblood
1st half i thought was shared by Bodkin and Long. I agree Corneille's 2nd half performance took it over all. I think Bodkin is in his correct position. I was impressed by their number 4. I will say at times it was a bit like watching England last night a bit slow to move the ball and a touch to many at times. A new award. Overall man of the match with, a wanner be a star complex, " The Ref".
Broadstairs Dave
There is still a strange whistling noise in my ears. . Wellsie if you have a recording of this afternoon's game perhaps you could edit out all the words and we could record a christmas number one with just the music from the said whistle, i have a title for it ......................., Silent night.! At the end of the day all the players and the official gave me a great afternoon's entertainment so thank you chaps.
Blue Banshee
found it very awkward today. Having the youth team there and a poorly hand made my responses to the decisions by the ref difficult to put eloquently and the goal celebrations (still think there were two for us...) were just as painfull! michael
Agree with most of the above posts-i thought entertaining and quality game from both sides. Disapppointing to concede so late (but not anything like as disappointing as going out of fa cup and trphy so tamely ). No disgrace with drawing with lewes-thought tey were a good side-and at start of season i predicted they would both be in play-offs and finish above margate-have not changed my mind. A draw ok-steadies the ship-and a new foundation to build on after some poor defeats;so overall quite happy. Like PW-on second half-it was just lewes who looked like scoring ,although overall-i thought Margate just shaded the game. Game was good for me-some good midfield passing from both sides. I thought Margate played a much more controlled game-as opposed to up and at 'em stuff. Midfiled of avery, corneille and bodkin slowed it down a bit and we were putting 4/5 passes together-i dont expect anymore at this level-but it was a plasure to watch just a bit more structure and thought going into the game. AS a player-=bodkin never did it for me when out on the wing (in fairness-no wingers do it for me anyway)-have seen previous encouraging glimpses of Bodkin in midfield )and in yersterdays 95 minutes-i thought he had a really good game in central midfield-as i state-control and decent passing-reminded me of terry mcflynn -decent delivery of set pices as well. Thought corneille and bodkin looked very good together in central midfield -with avery a bit deeper. really hope CK persists with that trio-gave us some possession for once. we will play a lot worse and win-so much as last minute equaliser hurts-i thought a really good performance ,and fairly happy
