Lewes 3-2 Slough Town

They got their first just before half time after we'd weathered the opening 20 minutes where they should have scored twice but for poor finishing, then Miller converted an awesome Harris cross with a diving header at the back post and Hodge added a second when Spencer won the ball back and released Hodge on a break who slotted past Dom.

Their first was a low hit direct free kick which snuck under the wall and their attacker beat Fossie to the ball to prod past him. They dominated the majority of the second half and were tearing us apart for the main part with their tactics working explointing the spaces behind Steer and Spencer who were operating as wing backs.

Hodge and Deaner both had good chances late on in the game from which Hodge should have scored but hit weakly at Dom, whilst Deaner's acrobatic volley went narrowly over.

Good crowd, good first half atmosphere, but still three large grass banks (no terracing, no cover) which might halt their progress...

Fossie

Howard Daly (Murphy)Gyoury

Spencer Steer

Harris Hyatt Haddow

Miller (Deaner) Hodge

Daly got injured in the second half and it has been rumoured he was taken to hospital after the game.

Great first half atmosphere in their 'mini' terraced stand though with the majority of the home fans staying behind the goal Slough were attacking. Would imagine on a well over 400 crowd in attendance as well.

I thought the performance was actually much improved on recent games. First Half I thought we were defending solidly and looked dangerous hence the two goals. Their first was lucky squeezing under the wall but it stemmed from another occasion where the defence tried to over play. At times like that ewe really should whack it into the stand. The Gyoury mistake for the winner was cruel. But I certainly feel better about the team than I did on Wednesday. Well done lads, let's pick it up for Tuesdat.

We can look back on a good performance today, we went 2-0 up through basically our first two chances but I just knew the goal before half time would be a killer. Even though we were 2-1 up at HT I refused to believe we would win, sad as it sounds. At times in the first half, Lewes looked ordinary and we played some good stuff. But the second half was a different story with us being on the back foot for large parts. We had a couple of good chances with Hodge and Deaner but it just wasn't going to happen. 3-2 was harsh, I believe we deserved a point.

I thought the atmosphere was fantastic, with both sets of fans behind the side we were attacking first-half. Made for some good banter and almost non-stop singing. As Gary said, must have been well over 400 there. I wasn't too impressed with the ground though, how can you have grassy verges for 'terracing', even in this league?? It was bloody cold on the other side as well and we had to watch Fossie concede two goals !!

Oh and by the way thanks to the Lewes fans for constantly reminding us we have no ground ! We had forgotten, you know !

Yes it was very nice in the sheep pub Dave -

I was gutted when the third goal went in but for some reason as soon as their second went in i thought it was over.We didn't deserve to leave the dripping pan empty handed, We are moving in the right direction and i still believe we can make top 6(but it will be tough),the atmosphere was great in the first half - Who needs premier league footie when you'v got Non League!

See you all on Tuesday, and hopefully another 3 ponts!

Sound like we played better than we have done in recent weeks then. Lets hope Steve Daly is not out too long as we need him in the side. Must say I still think we need additional players - possibly someone who can make something out of nothing like we had with Bubb, Winston & Gilkes last year.

Any word on Boot & Wilko yesterday when they are back?

I went to the ground dreading Slough getting a thrashing but instead we played really well at times and deserved at least a point. Really good atmosphere in first half - Slough and Lewes supporters in fine song - maybe we should have stayed behind that goal in the second half rather than freezing to death on the grass bank. They do have problems with sorting out their ground - bits of it are listed.

Stayed behind for a couple of beers after and lots of their supporters and officials shaking our hands and complimenting us on our support. Also took one mate to his first ever game and he really enjoyed it. Even ended up chatting to the ref for a bit!

So despite the defeat very proud of the team and supporters and if we play like that every week we will finish in top six

It's all a big if - if we play like we did yesterday, and against Welling at home, then yes I could see us getting a top 6 place. But then we go to places like Croydon Athletic and lose, and lose at home to Marlow. This inconsistency is the main thing standing in our way.
