Do we still have a freedom of speech?

Recommended Posts

No it's not, prevention is the best form of ensuring these things don't happen,if you re lucky enough to have children you should consider it a blessing and not leave them open to being snatched because you simply aren't there looking out for them.Yes,it could happen at any time but the chances are greatly reduced if you parent them properly, this wasn't the case with poor April, she was firstly let down by the 2 people who should be doing the most to protect her against the monsters of this world, while not as guilty as the murderer they should certainly be investigated as parents

Basil-Don - Cue Loosely!

What on earth are you on about Rhodesly? Is this not a free discussion forum any longer?

In any case I'm surprised people are suddenly offended by our laws on Free Speech and their limitations since they were adopted by the UK with the incorporation of Human Rights under the European Convention in 1998 and of course people have a right to Free Speech although I do wonder whether they get a bit confused with the rights that americans have under their constitution. UK law says that the limitations are:- Incitement to racial hatred and religious hatred, Incitement to terrorism including encouragement and dissemination of terrorist publications, threatening, abusive or insulting speech or behaviour likely to cause a breech of the peace, treason, sedition, even imagining the death of the monarch, obscenity, indecency - including corruption of public morals and outraging public decency, defamation and a whole host of restrictions on interfering with court proceedings.

So, no, Free Speech doesn't come without responsibility. Hasn't for about 14 years. Long since time to have left the country, campaigned against or even changed the government and repealed the act for people who were dissatisfied with our state of affairs.

Spot on. You wouldn't go to bed and leave your front door wide open, you would take preventative measures against being burgled by locking your front door and windows.

Likewise, at 7pm it it is dark outside, so how can you let a 5 year go riding a bike unsupervised at that time? She should have been getting ready for bed, if not already in it.

I get really paranoid about going out early morning,I often get up at 2/3am to go to work and always make sure I close the door,I have been known to ring Alice up at 3am to check the door is closed as I am not always with it when I wake up,if I left the door wide open and something happened (god forbid) then rightly so I would hold myself responsible,if someone wants to smash the door in,in the middle of the night then there's pretty much nothing I could do.

Loosely - Well there’s history between you and Basil-Don of Sir Francis Drake and the Spanish Armada proportions isn’t there and it’s quite noticeable that you’re always treading on egg shells around him, why is that exactly

What's this got to do with a discussion on free speech Rhodesly? If Basildon still has any issues with me he can let me know or does he send you out to cause some further rift?

Loosely – I’m just observing that when you respond to Basil-Don it’s in a different tone to when you reply to everyone else, you’re keen not to provoke him aren’t you!

Well Rhodesly - perhaps you can define this "tone". Perhaps you can show us all where I responded directly to Basildon? Did I address my comments to him by name or did I make an open post to the forum?

Crikey Rhodesly, you do make a habit of getting things wrong.

Loosely - That’s what you are so brilliant at, deflecting accusations and home truths against you, you really make Tony Blair look like small fry and manage to do it without an Alastair Campbell working you from behind

Rhodesly - you do seem intent on spoiling every thread for those contributing to it don't you? Obviously since you have no grounds or proof of your fanciful flights or on the other hand you desires to stir up trouble you come out with the vague "home truths" tried and tested line.

Do you mind if the rest of us carry on with this discussion on Free Speech now you've gotten your usual "chip on the shoulder" material out of the way?

on the subject of child abduction and murder theres probably no more than a dozen people in the entire country who are capable of such an act so the paranoia about such crimes is totally out of proportion,im afraid that if a person is determined to commit such a crime theres not much society can do to stop it. After the moors murders children still continued to 'play out' its only been since the nineties that such paranoia has taken hold of the publics imagination. The gutter press has had a field day the last week - a celebrity paedophile and a child abduction, they and their readers must be lapping it up.

I rest my case Tony, sorry, Loosely

I'm sure the rest of us are all grateful. Perhaps you can ask Basildon since he is here whether he is happy to discuss old "issues" he may have with me.

Loosely – Despite being a deviation away from the subject matter of the thread I’m sure members will be interested to hear about your ‘beef’ with Basil-Don and how it originated, would you care to fill us all in on the ‘gory’ details

I'm not the slightest bit interested.

Hookey - Fair enough but you're missing out, if you ever used to watch Dallas or Dynasty Loosely's antics made them both look tame in comparison, he is certainly a dark, sorry, black horse!
