Enfield Town v East Thurrock United

Chase Side Towner

Recommended Posts

Looking forward to seeing how we perform after little more than a week since our 4-1 victory over Cambridge City and arguably our best performance of the season to date. I don't expect this to be easy as ETU have won their last 5 matches, but if we stick to our 2 banks of 4 that worked so well last time out I'm hopeful we can get something out of the game.

C'mon the Towners

You were'nt far from your prediction.

Better finishing of some straight forward opportunities and but for some school boy errors defensively and we could have won comfortably.

However some of our football was very good and indeed 70mins of the game we were in control.

Oh Well all done now roll on Saturday.

Not a great night at the office; but not all bad news

More creative than the first few games of the season, and SHOTS on target

I'm not one to have a go at the ref BUT, ETU first 2 goals came whilst players were down injured; after the goals were scored the players needed treatment; I, like some of the players, thought play was going to be stopped; but then they were only head injuries!

hey ho we continue to improve and on another day we could have been 4 - 2 up at half time

roll on Saturday and 3 points PLEASE

Agree with the above. Very, very frustrating, so many chances created without having too much of the ball, especially in the first half. Second half for the first 20+ mins excellent, Imber was a spectator, then ....

Glad to see Carshalton losing anyway, with them losing loads of high earners that's another team that will struggle. A long way to go but I would rather be looking below me than above. Play the same again on Saturday and we're sure to get at least another two goals, if not more.

Up the Towners

A great game if you were a neutral or an East Thurrock fan... sure there were a few there last night...at least a car load

I think up until ETU scored it was easily our best performance of the season so lots of positives to take from it.

I have done extended highlights with nearly 20 mins to upload which i'll get round to tomorrow morning probably.

Gutted to lose but performances are getting better and better...Jonathan Hunt is a great signing, he seems to have lifted everyone. I thought Jo O'Brien was class last night.

... anyone who had the town at 2/1 with bet365 may have been counting their winnings with 20 mins to go!

If we play like that and tighten up at the back, stop giving ball away in silly areas then we'll win more than we lose.

Up the Town!

Yet to keep a clean sheet all season (bar St Margaretsbury who are 2 leagues below us) tells a story. Last night we should have killed the game at the attacking end for sure but we certainly need an addition or 2 at the back. Last years back 4 of Lockie, Kirby, Kendall and Siva seemed a lot tighter. Granted it was Div 1N and the opposition is far superior this year but the disappointing thing is we are conceding poor goals through our own mistakes rather than being outdone.

I think it's fairly clear Siva isn't up to the job defensively. Any winger with pace or power seems to have the beating of him. I think he will make a tremendous left sided midfielder though with his skill on the ball, and has potential to play at a higher level in my opinion. Our back four contains many 'fans favourites' but there is clearly a problem there and we might have to concede that changes may have to be made and new players brought in. Steve rightly gave everyone a go and hopefully now can see in his mind who is and isn't good enough for this level.

We're not miles away, which is encouraging, and hopefully before too long we'll have the nous to keep those leads and kick on.

Fingers crossed for Saturday.

To me the main problem was that everyone was too deep with a big gap to one player on the halfway line. One slip or one foul not given and there is no room or time to recover before the opposition are in on goal.

Extended match highlights are below. Over 20 mins of action which is (i think) the longest one i've ever put together. The "controversial" bit in third goal for ETU is from 18mins 40secs. Putting my neutral hat on I still can't make my mind up if Sam Higgins fouled Jordon jumping for the ball. Contact was made but was it intentional? Seen them given and not given? Loads of positives in the build up play Town put together. Don't think ETU had a decent effort until their first goal and the only real attempts they had they scored from.... Onwards and upwards to home game with Cray Wanderers on Saturday. They have played three away games in the league and drawn them all (1-1 @ East Thurrock and Leiston and 2-2 @ Lewes) They have also just signed Paul Vines from Carshalton Athletic who scores a few goals at this level.

Spot the mistake. I have doubled up some of the clips...I am suffering from a hangover (all self inflicted so i'll have no sympathy)....I'll leave the above one up until the corrected one is uploaded

Excellent highlights as always Colders. Was it a foul just before the third goal? Well, as the ref had seen an offence in almost every other aerial challenge in the game, I'm a bit miffed that he chose to overlook that one!

Are you sure he didn't see a foul by Jordan and play advantage?

Probably did not see a foul so did not feel the need to stop the game. Defenders should have concentrated on what was going on and played to the whistle. As it didn't go, then stay focussed.

Interesting to see Steve sign a central defender (welcome Lee white) as we look to try and keep a clean sheet for the 1st time in the league. It is going to be difficult to see who Steve will drop (if any) for Saturdays game. IMO Gio has been outstanding this season, and while Kirbs has been solid he tends to go missing from his defensive duties. There is no doubt that Kirbs is a quality defender and has confidence on the ball, something you don't see many centre backs have but he has a tendency to want to roam forwards which has worked well (Lewes for example) but he then leaves a big void in defence if we are caught on the counter attack. I know Kirbs is skipper and would probably be difficult to drop (I know he has been struggling with a knee injury) but from what I've seen this season and if Lee White is 'better' than Gio, Kirbs & Kendall, I would prefer to see Gio stay with Kirbs either dropped or pushed into a holding midfield role as this will see him still able to put in tackles and also distribute the ball like he can and go on roaming runs knowing that there will be 2 centre backs covering.

On another note of new signings it would be nice to see another striker at the club. We have relied on Liam, Gunz & Tyler a lot this season and the addition of a quality striker would be welcome, one that will always stay on the last defender rather than drop deep.

holding midfield role

Was thinking that exact same SC, maybe one of the centre backs stepping forward slightly to had that extra bit of defensive cover in midfield, especially now as the 4-4-2 (or 4-4-1-1) sees us getting the full backs very much involved in the attacking third. We'll know more a bit later today.

AGREE 100%

And if we do not sign anyone, then push Liam ( and Gunz ) onto the the opposition back line to keep them defending deeper.
