Ian
Just as we were approaching Slough on the way back tonight Kay's phone rang. This isn't an uncommon occurrence as she gets loads of calls after a game with people typically asking what the score was. She has a hands free kit in the car so we all got to hear the conversation with a breathless old man which we assume was a Margate fan. For those Radio 2 Steve Wright fans he sounded a bit like Barry from Watford! The conversation went something like this..... Kay: "Hello" Man: "Is that Slough?" Kay: "Yes" Man: "Do you know who you have got in the next round?" Kay: "No, we don't find out until Monday" Man: "Can you tell them?" and again Man: "Can you tell them?" Kay: "Tell them what?" Man: "Can you tell Slough Town that they didn't deserve to win and I hope they get knocked out" Kay (sarcastically): "That's very kind, thank you!" He also left an answer phone message with similar sentiments. Seems like the Lidl store in Margate have sold out of sour grapes this evening!!! dflman
if you team had played as badly as Margate did today you would be pretty angry. It's what football is about - passion - we don't mind losing a good game - surely no one other than Ferguson does. You didn't get a game today that's for sure and it was down to tactics not your great play - having said that the way you kept your shape and the size of your number 4 all deserve praise
Nathan
Dflman, how can you tell that it wasn't our workrate and passion that stopped your lot from playing today? It's easy to throw your hands up and declare "we're rubbish" after a disappointing defeat. I should know - I've been guilty of it more than a few times over the last 2 years! But to use that as an excuse to take our win (which was throughly earned) is simply not on IMO.
dflman
No mate - I've been going too long to not recognise a pathetic performance when I see one - if you had been here Tuesday night when the Margate other team were playing - the one with craft and guile and playing football not hoofball you would have seen what I mean
Bernie Gogan
That's the trouble with us supporters, we rarely see that the oppo were the reason we played rubbish. Craft and guile are great, but it doesn't always win football matches, especially at non-league level. Employ tactics to suit the occasion, this was after all a cup match, a winner takes all scenario. So it goes, we'll get beaten in due course but we will at least be several thousand pounds better off. Cheers Margate, and good luck for the rest of the season, hope you get promoted. brighton_rebel
To be fair to all Margate fans i met today. Great bunch of supporters before, during and after the game. Even the steward who confiscated my water bottle lid was alright at the end of the game (although still not sure why he did, unless he collects them)

Sue
Wow that is a classic, I get passion in football but a phone call like that is well OTT. Must say though that most Margate fans I spoke to were lovely, spent the second half talking to a lovely elderly man really enjoyed his company and he was very gracious at the end. And yes Mark they have OLDER people in Margate as well
Ian
It was noted Sue that in the second half most of the 'elder' Rebels fans were stood very close to the ambulance at the side. We didn't know whether that was by design......just in case?!!
Dutch_Mike
You've got to realise, we do have a lot of bitter fans down our way; it must be in our blood or something! Anyway, fair play to your lot: you'd obviously done your homework, knew how to play against us and restricted us to virtually nothing. Took the one real decent chance carved out by either team, and got the win. Not to say I wasn't disappointed at the time (and still am), but credit where credit's due. Best of luck in the next round
Sue
Exactly Ian, I wasnt taking any chances. Mind you I thought Phil and Aidan's day's were numbered when they tried to put the Slough flag up on their balcony, cheeky I know
Ian
The man we are now calling "Barry from Margate" has called again!!! Barry: "Can you tell me who you got?" Kay: "No, we don't know as it has to go to a replay" Barry: "Yes, but can you tell me who?" Kay: "Is that so you can tell us again you hope we lose?" Kay: "Bath City or Gosport" Barry: "Stockport?!" Kay: "No, Gosport. And thanks for your good luck messages, I've passed them on. Bye!" The guy is a legend!!!!
