Egham Town President Brian Askew passed away this morning, after a long illness. Brian was a loyal supporter of the club since its resurrection in 1963, and had held the posts of Club Treasurer and Club Secretary. His energy and his wholehearted support of his club will be sorely missed. Egham Town FC wish to pass on their condolences to Brian's family and friends.

The match at Bedfont Sports today was marked with a very respectful one minute's silence before kick off.

A true gentleman and a great bloke. Even though he wasn't well for some time it was still a shock to hear the sad news just before kick off today. He was only at the match the other week in his wheelchair.

He sat loads of times at the end of bar having a few beers with the supporters talking about everything Egham. Always smiling and laughing.

He loved Egham, and everyone at Egham loved him back.

Sorely missed by us all.

Rest in Peace Bri.

Brian was a really lovely man. He could be forthright, but always drew on his knowledge when expressing a view and that knowledge was vast. His passion for football and Egham Town in particular was obvious to all who knew him. Without Brian and others like him, the club would not have developed in the way that it did and I am saddened by his passing.

As others have said, Brian was a gentleman in every sense of the word and he will be missed not just at Egham, but around local football. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends, as well as to all connected with Egham Town FC.

This is really sad news.

I have known Brian for many years, as he was obviously at the club when I joined as a 16 year old in 1975 and, me being there as a player and manager over a period of some 18 years, he was constant presence around the club and a good friend.

My wife and I also went to school with his son Chris, so our condolences go out to him and all if the family.

I think we all knew Brian was unwell for some time but it still a shock to hear the news, as he really was a unique character who will be sorely missed.

Thanks, Brian, for everything you did for me over the years, you were a lovely man.

Steve.
