Rotterdam To Make Jobless Work For Their Benefits

Recommended Posts

I've actually never been unemployed in my life, thankfully, and I have had either the good fortune of people recommend me for work or I've applied via the classifieds.

I've never claimed JSA (nor would I - I do not believe in taking off the state) and thankfully I am in a decent financial position with a pension and insurance and good savings tucked away too.

Sadly, every word you've said there Smudge is true. It is about time we started looking after our own indigenous population, and rewarded those people who contribute to the running of Great Britain PLC. Sod the EU - we need to look after number one.

So, you was privately educated, and have never needed expensive medical treatment from the NHS, and if had a family and lost your savings and the means to earn an income you wouldn't claim benefits. Unbelievable.

Comprehensive School (which was an absolute dive), not had an operation since I was 13 (had to have 6 teeth out as I had a crowded mouth - bit like a 1970s Freddie Mercury).

I have savings in bonds, ISAs and tax-free savings with NS&I as well as a savings account with my bank. If I lost it, through the Government being d*ckheads, then I'd probably go postal on the Chancellor (just kidding, but I would be severely peed off).

Alan, I don't believe in taking out from the pot. If you'd have seen the amount of people in Cwmbran and The Valleys who take, take, take and never put anything back you would be ashamed to be associated with them. It sickened and repulsed me to an extent that I thought 'no, that's not for me' and being guided by my Great Uncle (Hardcore Socialist) and Grandfather (Tory Voter - and yes weirdly the two of them got on great) and taking on their values of respect, hard work and decency I got myself out of there and have worked for every penny.

If I lost everything tomorrow, I would work hard to get it all back. That's just how I operate - I don't expect life to be handed to me on a gold tray, I go out and live it and work for it.

Amen brother

Smudge makes a valid point, although immigration has been allowed to rocket, this is probably due to the amount of bums we have in the country,my problem is that we have our own bums and many immigrants seem to follow suit, which is not why they were let in,the previous governments,if wanted could of slammed the door, regardless of what Europe says but chose not to.

As for unemployed, yes most of the people who become unemployed do not chose this, they find themselves in the position when they would rather work,I bet though, around 15-20% of those unemployed are long term and just milk the system, these are the ones who the government should be targeting

Overseas Aid - don't get me started on that!

We should stop giving to China and India - they don't need our money.

As for wars, I'd send the MP's over to fight, If they haven't got the bottle to go in the trenches, then why should they expect our brave service men and women too?

NHS - not perfect I admit, but a necessity nonetheless. Get Matron back running the hospitals and sling the administrators out.

I know,I make Jon Gaunt look sane ;)

Before you have another rant about people who claim benefits because they are unable to find paid employment, have a good look around your flat and see how many of its contents were actually made in the UK. I would guess very little.

Governments that award contracts for goods and services are partly to blame, but the people that are the most responsible are everyone of us that choose to buy foreign instead of home produced products.

Well then, more products and goods made here and more manufacturing would go some way to remedy that.

I would say that a good chunk of the unemployed (not a majority, necessarily) don't want to work and would rather not make the effort to go job hunting.

Matter of fact, there are always vacancies in these poorer communities that get unfilled - why? Because the jobs aren't glamorous - cleaning toilets/sweeping the streets/flipping burgers at McDonalds/warehouse work etc. The poor little diddums don't want to have a boring job.... awwww.

Can't say that my Grandfather had much choice about a hellish job he had between 1939 and 1945... doubt he could have got a sick-note of the quacks for that!

Instead of mollycoddling the bone idle and lazy, we should be telling them 'look, we play fair and we have to work hard for a living - so should you.' So what if they're cleaning toilets for six months? At the end of six months they will have experience and can then go on to something better.

As for buying British, I consciously make an effort to buy British whenever I can.

Cleaning Toilets in the Biggest populated borough in London, there are no Public Toilets to clean, even in the local Parks there are no Toilets to clean.Reason the local Council closed them all years ago.Just like they sold all the Big Car Parks.

E.U.now your an honest chap, how much have your earnings dropped over the past 2 years.

Hi smudge,I only started the business a couple of years go,this summer was slightly quieter than last summer but I think this may of been because of the Olympics,I know quite a few people who sacrificed their summer holiday abroad for a few tickets at Stratford, although I didn't really notice too much difference in all honesty.

Now the summer is over I am taking more bookings for October and November than last year, but this may also be due to my customer base expanding.

Also Upminster is quite an affluent area, with areas like Brentwood, shenfield etc on our doorstep whose residents are not short of a few bob
