Rotterdam To Make Jobless Work For Their Benefits

Recommended Posts

Could (and should) a similar scheme work in the UK?

I'm recalling stories about how G4S treated their jobseekers hoping for actual contracts for the Olympics.

You run the risk of mistreatment imo.

What a wonderful idea, how comes a forward thinking country like us haven't thought of this idea before.....

How would you feel if the government helped the car industry by buying up loads of cars, taught the jobless to drive and then made them drive minicabs for their benefits.

Better than them bleeding the country dry, and spending the proceeds on cider, fags and then getting a top-up when another sprog pops out.

Any job is better than no job, and if I had to sweep the streets in order to survive then I'd knuckle down and do it.

Exactly who benefits from people being on benefits? I know that I and my hard-earned money doesn't (bloody tax....)

I can honestly say that even Rhodes has entertainment value Adam, but National Socialists like you really get on my tits. There's a lot that could be better about our benefits system but creating a slave labour force is not progress.

So people working for payment is wrong?

Why on earth should the government hand money over fist to the majority of he unemployed who simply can't be arsed to work.

I feel for people who lose their jobs, but after a certain amount of time you should be able to gain employment, unless you are cretinous.

I don't think they should work 40 hours a week or anything close but maybe 16 a week in 4 shifts to actually get them dong something for their money

Well I can see you've though this through ToryBoy. How about the gov put them all in luxury SUV's doing airport taxiing, they are only on a fixed benefit package so they don't care if they undercut you with fixed and variable costs. ToryBoy ends up on the dole queue and he ends up in a luxury SUV paid for by whoever is left working for less and he doesn't know whether he's just had his arsehole pulled though his throat but what he does know is he can't send his daughter on that school skiiing trip now.

My customers come with me because I offer a competent service, doubt many of the unemployed would get put into the taxi business'

There are so many industries that could be helped,it's a ridiculous suggestion to target one.

I see, so any industry but yours.

This will work.

Socialist? Moi? I don't think Alan would agree :P I'm a lot further to the right although I do believe in fairness and equality for all.

I left home at 15, which was a absolute tip of a flat owned by my Dad who would make Frank Gallagher look like Jesus Christ... I was given the chance to go on a YTS with Cambridge United, but despite working hard for my chance they let me go at 17. Since then, I've had to be self-sufficient and look after number one. I was lucky that over the years I saved hard and also met people who've helped me in my career, but I've done the s***ty jobs nobody else wanted to - I've done 12 hours in warehouses, delivered Kleeneze catalogues, done voluntary work and social work with Emmaus. My thinking was 'I've got the opportunity to better myself, and yes it'll take time and effort but it will be worth it.'

I could have easily become another jobless parasite from the Fairwater Estate in Cwmbran, South Wales but I didn't - I know I'm better than that. I'm now living comfortably and have got a fantastic life here in one of the best cities in the UK.

It's getting to be a really nice place now, and with Kings Square being redeveloped we will soon have one of the most modern shopping centres in the UK and also Gloucester Docks is booming as well.

True, it's far from perfect, but if you're ever this way you'll see what I mean - the city is changing for the better. Next on the list (hopefully) is a new 15,000 all-seater stadium for The Tigers in the Railway Triangle!

So everyone that has the misfortune to be unemployed drinks cider, smokes and breeds like rabbits. I honestly didnt know that. What I do know is that people that lose their jobs and are replaced by interns or volunteers no longer pay tax and national insurance and claim benefits, they then have less money to spend, which means that businesses go broke and even more people are made unemployed.

I would say that the people that benefit from high unemployment are unscrupulous employers who use it as an excuse for driving down wages to increase their own profit margins.

Adam you have obviously not been unemployed for some time. The way it is now you visit a Jobcentre, press a screen for jobs available, this then comes up 90% of the time, advertising Employment Agencies Jobs.Which for anyone living in London is normally the minimum wage, which people cannot live on.If we were all more truthful to ourselves, there are few jobs out there for the number of unemployed. The reason for this in my opinion is the Mass explosion in Immigration over the past 12 years in certain areas. At least the unemployed spend every penny that they receive, that goes back into the economy. The same cannot be said of many of the Immigrant workers, who have to send money home to their Families, from where they came.Which suits big business,as it keeps wage costs down to a minimum.
