Ian
Thoroughly outplayed, outfought and out-thought. Heaven knows what Margate will do to us if we play like that next weekend.
Don Juan DeMarcus
After that showing I don't intend to find out. Think a Saturday in sl1 is looking more likely!
readingrebel
There seems to be a bit of an over-reaction by some people after our first defeat in 5 games against a team that are above us in the pyramid and apparently throwing money at the team. Perhaps not a good performance but give the team some slack after one poor game.
Mr Rebel
in fairness coming off at full time the players did not shy away from the fact it was a awful performance. a few even apologised including Danny Burnelll who i thought was one of the only ones to work their socks off for the team today. arguably one of his best performances for us in terms of effort he has had for us in his 100 appearances it does put me off slightly going to Margate but 1 defeat doesn't mean we are suddenly dreadful and are not worth supporting anymore. Edinburgh Rebel
One positive is that Maidstone won away to Margate today which shows they are beatable (although Maidstone have had some very good results recently).
Matt
Agree with RR here - Gosport were just far too good on the day. It's very easy to hit the panic button at this stage but the main focus is on the league, and the FA Cup next weekend where I would expect a much better showing. If I could make it, I would - today doesn't change anything.
HorshamRebel
We all know how they played The management know how they played The players know how they played We need to put it behind us, learn from it, and use it against Margate on Saturday and the rest of the season. I for one will be at Margate supporting the team, and photographing it for those who can't make it. COYR
3spirit
Agree with RR here - Gosport were just far too good on the day. It's very easy to hit the panic button at this stage but the main focus is on the league, and the FA Cup next weekend where I would expect a much better showing. If I could make it, I would - today doesn't change anything. It wasn't that Gosport was too good. They were beatable. It was that Slough were awful and put in a frustrating,piss-poor performance.Stuart Swift and Adam Logie had decent first halves but gave up in the 2nd. The only players IMO that can hold their head up and gave their all for the entire 90 mins was Warrington,Fraser and Burnell. The rest were woeful and don't deserve their wages this week! I don't mind Slough losing but least go down with a bit of fighting sprit and pride.Slough were passionless. Alex Pike[the Gosport manager] identified that the Slough midfield and defence were too slow and told his players to keep turning the defence of Brown,NBH,Woozley. Slough are too laboured and predictable to any good managers. Where was this great defensive midfielder that Steve Bateman suggested Dave Deeney was? He's been missing most of the season! Dominic Rhone plays too deep and is non-effective as a defender. He is worth perservering with but surely must play in an attacking role/wide left with the speed he has. Sean Fraser is wasted as a right back[and isn't a right-back]but at least,he plays with his heart on his sleeve ,and has a good engine, tackles well and isn't frightened to get stuck in unlike most of our other midfielders,so IMO should be playing in the midfield three at the expense of Dave Deeney. Steve Bateman has problems down both defensive flanks and we're missing Simon Sweeney and Danny Murphy big time. So much for Steve Bateman's press talk in the local newspapers, where he claimed he had Gosport sussed,as that was complete bull**it,excuse my French! What was most galling for me was our lethargic way we started the 2nd half. What an earth was said at half time? Was the tea spiked with sedatives? [ha ha,not] as we were abysmally slow out of the traps and this happens far too often under the Bateman watch. Sometimes,Steve, needs to alter his laid back style and yesterday's game was one of them when the hair dryer treatment was desperately needed ie Barry Fry,Martin O'Neil,Graham Roberts to stir his under performing players. A thoroughly abject disaster of a Slough playing performance and Gosport couldn't of believed their luck,as really we gave them a bye into the next round. Cookham Rebel
Yes we were awful yesterday and it doesn't take a scientist to work out that we are not as strong squad wise as were last season... I can understand all comments and frustrations on here but I for one will not waste my energy any more by posting what I really think, no point, if the club are happy to languish at this level of football then so be it, any optimism I had regarding the management and players has disappeared I'm afraid! Here's to a better result at Margate, COYR!!!
epicrebel
you all could be Beaconsfield supporter this morning, Come on 1 bad result ( in a cup game ) to a team at a higher level ( no matter were they are in the league ) it is there home form that's bad, but away they've a good record according to there directors. How come some of you weren't on here saying we are world beaters when we beat Hungerford in the last round ( a team from a higher league ). Some of you only want to support Slough when we are winning and sl-g everyone when we lose. yes we didn't have many chances but we played the ball around well even in the second half, they got the rub of the green ( rebounds, second ball deflections ect ). We did have alot of the ball but not many chances.
Cookham Rebel
Hungerford are not from a higher league and if you read back through the forum you will see the same comments being written even after we win, it's not only about speaking your mind after we lose! Yes a win is a win, a draw is a draw and a loss is a loss BUT its the manner in which you win, draw and lose that counts and sets the best sides apart from the bad sides I'm afraid!
