Bateman driving fans away.

Having come back home from watching yet another 2 dimensional product of the Steve Bateman book of tactics, it has confirmed to me that he has totally run out of ideas of how to set up a team to take on different opponents. It is the same old, same old that sometimes works if he is lucky, but is now known by those who have played against his teams before and is easily countered by any manager worth their salt.

We are now in our fourth season under him and there is still no more likelihood of us getting up this season than the last 3.

We must have one of the largest budgets, if not the largest for this league and it still makes no difference. Steve Easterbrook must wonder why he puts so much into the club for so little reward, and even more so with the reduction in those attending games and lower season ticket sales.

I was one of those who did not renew my season ticket this year, after being a regular for over 10 years, but have paid on the gate for games attended.

However it is with regret that I now have come to the decision that whilst Steve Bateman is the manager of Slough Town I will no longer be parting with my £8 to attend games or the £5 for the Barmy Army fund.

I will monitor the website and forum to see how Slough Town fair and hope that Steve Easterbrook makes the move to change the team management and allow the club to move forward from the stagnation Steve Bateman has bought about.

Clive Tuck (Staines Rebel).

I wasn't at the match today, but judging from the comments on here and the other thread, we appear to have fallen into the trap of complacency that has plagued us for the last 2 years.

For the previous 2 games (Hungerford and Eastbourne) we've been good. But 2 games don't make a season!

It's not so much that we lost (though that is obviously very disappointing), but it is the manner in which we lost (judging by B&C's and Ian's comments). Just like the end of last season!

Surely you have not all forgotten that I pointed out last season and this that Mr Bateman keeps changing his teams around, even when they win a game, so will never get consistent sides. Also was i not right when I said that this years team would NOT make the play offs even-sorry to be so accurate.

how can you be acurate, when this season is not yet over. we may still get to play offs, or even up direct, stranger things have happened. you may think not going to happen, but until season over, not certain for sure.

As expected, a complete overreaction. We lost to a good Gosport side today. I'd rather have suffered a big defeat in the Trophy than in the league.

I for one am still very optimistic about the rest of the season. I'm also glad I don't use this forum as much as I used to. Staines Rebel - how many times have you walked away from the club now? At least half a dozen.

By the way, these views are my own and not representative of the "forum mafia".

I dont think there is much point in talking up the opposition when we are so comprehensively beaten Gosport are in a higher division but well in the second half of the table with just 2 wins from 8games I would be more concerned that in 10 competetive games since the season started we have only managed 2 clean sheets It was our excellent defense last season that allowed us to grind out so many single goal victories and we need that restored Also for a cup match against higher division opposition we couldnt get 200 fans through the gates.

I do think we have some concerns in the fan situation but nothing to do with Bateman

My concern is our average age and until we get back into slough we will struggle to bring new fans through the gate. No disrespect to our fans at all but many of them may not be watching slough in 10,15,20 years and so we need to get back to slough and make sure we start getting fresh faces.

Perhaps this has contributed this year

Again no disrespect to anyone who cannot make games for whatever reason

Not so long ago we had little, if any money not the slightist hint of a ground and every week we were being beaten 6 - 0 or if we were lucky 6 - 1. One club even played a tune after every goal they scored, which again after the sixth goal got a bit boring still we got our own back on them last year we knocked them out of the F A cup and even better the goal was scored by one of their ex players.

So losing to Gosport for me in the F A Trophy isnt such a big deal, Me, Aidan, Phil and Lynn will be going to Margate that is of course Mark if us OLDIES make it to Sat !!

Oh that includes Warren as well as he is getting on a bit too.

I agree with Sue.

Although nice to win any cup game, the FA Trophy prize money is pitiful compared to the FA Cup and I'm not sure cancelling too many more league games would do us any favours.

So personally I'm not overly concerned about going out of the Trophy.

It's not about losing an FA Trophy game.It was the manner of defeat. The players let Gosport walk all over them and that is what Steve Bateman has to take responsibility for.He is too wishy-washy,when it comes to stirring his troops. That said,it was most of his players that let him down[and us fans] big time on Saturday. However, his conservative approach and dire substitions don't help.

What is incredibly disappointing at the moment is our staid tactics.Does every free-kick/corner have to be the big men in the box cross.Where is the invention? Where is our creativity?

Steve Bateman is not our worst manager by a long chalk but he certainly isn't the best either!Currently there are two managers unemployed who I think would do a better job than what Steve is currently serving up.That is Keith Scott and Steve Cordery. If we want to be successful with a winning mentality, then we should approach one of them.If we're happy to be in a top ten side in the Central division,we should hang on to Steve.

I consider myself to be rationalist. It's not the end of the world to stay in the Central division but it is one of the lowest leagues Slough's ever been in.

The attendances will only go down if we become a habitual failure. If we intend to stay in this league, why don't we develop some younger, hungrier players who aren't just here for the money and will go out and give it their all.Better that, than the cr*p we had to endure against Gosport.

PS Let's hope such a dreadful performance and critical reaction by some of the support about the Gosport game, prove's to be the catalyst to spur the team onto an inspiring, outstanding match from a Slough perspective against Margate.

That's what's so annoying about the current team. When they ALL put the effort in.They are no mugs and are worth watching.Trouble is we're such a Jeckyll and Hyde side,at the moment.

Mark, that's the funniest thing ive read on this forum for ages. Why do you think so many of us are having kids?

I do think a lot of this waffle could be easily cleared up with fans forum with steve batemen, steve easterbrook occassionally.

See you all in Margate. Just watch out for Sues kiss-me-quick hat
