blue pilgrim
In front of a crowd of 479, Town were 3 down by half time, having been second best in every department and totally outplayed. Experienced former league striker, Sills ,helped himself to a hatrick and the only surprise was that this was Basingstoke's first away league win of the season. At least to Town's credit, they made a fight of it in the second half. Rob Swaine pulled one back, either side of which we hit the woodwork and forced their keeper into making some saves. Basingstoke showed why they should reach the playoffs and had no need of any help from the referee, who angered some of the home supporters by giving most 50/50 decisions to the away team. extaffyjim
The first half was absolutely dreadful, the worst i've seen us play in some time. Basingstoke were thoroughly worthy of the 3-0 advantage. Second half was a different story altogether, restricted 'stoke to hardly anything, scored, hit the bar twice, and had a couple of other decent chances. So frustrating to see what we could do, and if the game had kicked off at 4pm it could have been a different result. Still, good to see us make a decent fist of it and restore some pride. Some positives to be taken, not least that no one has managed a clean sheet against us this year in 10 competitive games. Onwards to Monday , another tough game, lets hope we pick up from todays second half performance
GazzaBTFC
I think the lessons learned from the game were best summed up by John Lynn in the bar after the game... and I quote "You play for 45 minutes, you win the 45 minutes"...so if we had played for 90, the result could've been different (should've? would've? Who knows) It's gone now and we're going to lose games...lets move on to Monday night and get behind the players... Which brings me onto another point which isn't very savory. There are reports that some so called supporters felt the need in letting their frustration of our first half peformance known to the players by making abusive comments to them during the game and when they came off the pitch at half time. This is not acceptable, in my opinion and it certainly isn't in any discription of being a supporter or showing support, that I know of. These are some of the same players that got us promoted last season!!! It is cowardly and unacceptable behaviour. If this happens again, I hope the stweards are aware and throw these people out and they are banned. I know these people are in the minority and therefore will have no baring on the what the majority of us feel and how the majority support the players in their enveavours... This is going to be a tough season as we find our feet in a higher league and the players value our support. Our support is one of the main reasons these players have stayed here and want to play for our club. I suggest those people (I can't call them supporters because they no longer deserve that description) grow up, vent their frustration in a more contructive manner or find another club to support. These players are deserving of our support
Ryan.c
I knew it was going to go wrong as soon as I read that Alex Osborn interview! Disastrous 45 minutes. It's hard to explain why we put in such a limp performance against a side that looked competent enough, but nothing in the special bracket. But, a better 2nd half performance and as said above, if we had started the game like that then we'd all be happy this morning! It's been and gone, now a chance to get it out the system with a win at Boreham Wood tomorrow night! I personally didn't hear any abuse towards the players. Bill of Shenfield
Poor first half, improved in the second half. Thought our team was unbalanced and playing long balls to 2 short forwards. Gazza we all get annoyed at our players but as you said ther is no reason to abuse them and I suspect that if these people stood in front of these players they would not be so brave. jl
The first half was the worst 45 we've played since Lewes away, a game which then kick-started us on to great things. I thought two or three of our lads were miles below what they are capable of and in all honesty 3-0 down flattered us. I don't think the change in shape helped us as we seemed to struggle to adapt to it and when we did the game was already gone - That said the first two goals were donations of the highest order and quality forwards just don't pass up those opportunities. Presumably the hairdryer came out at half time and we looked a much better team, played some good football in spells, scored a good goal, hit the woodwork twice and forced Bayes into some good saves. I'm sure the lads now realise that to get results in this league they have to play for 90 minutes not 45. We played well in the second half and if we can take that into Monday we have a chance of getting something from what will be a tough game. I can understand people's frustrations but abusing the players is bad form. It's Billericay not Man Utd (or should that be Spurs) and one of our greatest assets is that we all stick together. Hopefully we'll forget the first 45, remember the second 45 and show what we can do on Monday. Come on you Blues!!

MarkBTFC
After a shocking first 45 we certainly upped our game in the second half. Hopefully can carry that into Mondays game. Wudnt argue with the boss regarding team selection as they work day in day out together, however feel we lined up wrong from the start. we had no natural winger on the pitch and again failed to hold the ball and get high enough up field. Can't comment on said player abuse. But I see nothing wrong with letting a player or team know they are not happy with the performance. As long as it does not go behond that. Rich.m
Well that's how tough this division is going to be, If you don't turn up from the start then there's a huge mountain to climb. Second half was a bit better, but I still feel once we scored we didnt really give it a real go, hopefully with Nathan back on Monday he will give us the width and also the energy that he brings with his game. With regards to shouting abuse at players I don't recall any doing it. At half time I went to the tunnel to give the support they needed, trying to get them going because we all know they are much better and we are behind them at 3 0 down. Monday gives us a chance to forget about Saturday if we can get a result there if not then it will live long in the memory! Come on its a long season we will win lose and draw, so keep getting behind the players and get 3 points at boreham wood Tomorrow
blue pilgrim
Sad to hear Gazza's comments about abuse to our players. We can't always win and like it or not Basingstoke played very well in the first half, pressed the ball and forced errors. It's football and it happens, so those idiots need to get over it. Even sadder were the events at the Walton/H Trophy game against Brentwood with one fan hospitalised and two in custody. It shouldn't happen at any football ground, let alone a non league one. Umbrella Man
It was a shocker of a first half, the worse performance for over a year that just goes to show we have been spoit with some of the football we have watched over the last year or so. Was a much better 2nd half i'll put it down to a bad day at the office which everyone has from time to time. Got a big game tomorrow now i'm fairly confident the boys won't be so bad tomorrow. Onwards and upwards
Brightside Bloke
I was impressed at how the lad's turned the game around in the 2nd half. but agree with the majority regarding the 1st half. I also was not aware of any abuse directed at Billericay Town players, And agree if this did happen then said supporters should be dealt with appropriately. Up and at em Monday night lad's
The Town Crier
Abuse is so unnecessary, and usually uncalled for Joe. but the demon drink can sometimes do funny things to us. A big game for us on Monday now...c'mon you blues

Patriot
Dreadful first half, with most the team not making it out on to the pitch but the second half showed the passion and desire which has helped us defy our player budget and push on in the past couple of seasons. On second half performance we will give any team in this league a run for their money. With regards to the 'abuse' of our players I too would be interested in what was said and who 'reported' the said abuse. In the first half, I like many of the home and awayers behind the goal did moan and shout at the players to wake up and get at the 'stoke' players but no one personally villified or single out a player or players for abuse nor started laying into the team. At half time I did hear a couple of fans/supporters (who do go home and away) shouting to the players as they came off the pitch, but I wouldn't class, "come on boys we are better than that", "wake up lads" etc. as abuse, more as frustration and encouragement. If on the other hand they were yelling abusive comments at the players, then I am sure others like me would have pulled them on it. I personally feel it is a bit strong to call for people to be banned when you haven't heard the 'alleged' abuse you have only heard people 'reporting' abuse to players. Anyway bad 45 minutes in the office this week cost us dear, plenty more minutes to play for so lets get on with the game.
