I've started scanning my old negatives from the 1990s in preparation for a follow up to my highly popular 'EFC in the 80s' photosets on Flickr from two or three years back.

There's a fair amount of work to do, largely because the negatives are in boxes, unlabelled and in no obvious order.

However I came across this one which I felt needed to be shared straight away.

If anyone can explain why Greg Heald is sitting in a racing car at Southbury Road I should be grateful.

I remember that! I had to move my programme sellers box for that pic. Outrageous.

Can't remember who or why but they bought a couple of race cars in to display before the game as some sort of promotion. Greg got in for a couple of press pics. Very wise to put one of our tallest players in a tiny race car before the game...

Pouring with rain and very windy is a bit of an understatement. The game should never have been played as large parts of the pitch were unplayable. One corner was actually ankle deep in mud and taking corners legally from there was impossible.

I think it is Richo making the tackle - he certainly played in the game.

thanks Tom ( I spoke to you at Wealdstone " some of those weren't born last time we went to Lowermead" ).. what worries me is that I sometimes can't remember what I did 5 minutes ago , yet I can still recognise a player from the way he tackled in a 20 year old photo !

I loved the sets you put on Flickr from the 80's . I was thinking about my personal favourite 'away days' . Do you have any piccies from Bishop Auckland away or the 4-1 win at Hayes ? . Another great trip was 2-0 down 3-2 up at Scarborough. I think Carl got a hat-trick .1983?
