Should Police Be Armed

Rhodes

Recommended Posts

I see that, following the shooting of the two female Police Officers on Monday in Manchester, there is debate on whether the Police should now be armed. Unsurprisingly Nick Clegg warned of a knee jerk reaction and rejected the move saying that it would carry 'considerable risks and could damage relations between Police and the Communities they serve'. Clegg went on to say that 'I don't think it is time to rush to instant judgements, I think if we were to arm our Police to the teeth they become separate from the public and that would be a big change'. It sums the weak and beleaguered Clegg up perfectly as nobody said anything about arming Police 'to the teeth', just a basic hand gun would suffice as a deterant against attack wouldn't it.

Rhodes in "Beleaguered Politician" post Shocker. Another slow news day.

We have to be careful that we do not become a totally police state.

I would say that we do need to seriously reconsider bringing back serious deterrents, as society is far too soft and over-liberal. Maybe the death penalty IF it can work properly and reintroduce discipline in schools, as children need guidelines and boundaries. By allowing them freedom and the ability to do things without fear of recrimination, you are taking away the freedom and rights of others who can behave in an appropriate manner.

Also, consider what would happen if we get a future megalomaniac leader in charge!

As with abortion and right to die, a potential slippery slope.

Another slow news day.

So why didn't anybody post about it earlier this week then, two female Police Office shot dead whilst carrying out their duties isn't exactly a 'bog standard' news story is it. Once again I rest my case about you.

Let's try and calm Rhodesy down a bit shall we, he seems to be on a mission today?

Rhodesy, do police officers or the Police Federation want officers to be routinely armed?

Not sure about arming EVERY police officer,

BUT, definitely a good reason to bring back the rope !

Having witnessed police using execss force in this country I would not trust them with guns.

It would be a slippery slope.

I disagree that it would be a slippery slope, when the Police have used force in the past, such as the Ian Tomlinson case, it has been in the line of duty and warranted

I personally think ALL officers should be trained in the use of, and carry Tasers.

And another prime example of Rhodesy being completely incorrect as the police officer PC Simon Harwood has been found guilty by a discipline tribunal of gross misconduct.

I rest my case.

Slightly OT, but what happens if you get a megalomaniac in charge of the country?

Would you feel safe with an armed police then?

Still no-one seems prepared to answer whether police officers or the Police Federation want police to be routinely armed.....

Uncomfortable question with an answer that doesn't suit the proponents perhaps......

Loosely – Unlike you I am more than happy to answer questions and why shouldn’t Police Officers or the Police Federation want Police to be routinely armed, actually it’s a bit of a no brainer really!
