Sportingbet Takeover Talks.

Smudge

William Hill and G.V.C are in takeover talks with Guernsey based Sportingbet, regards their online Bookmaking business, mainly based in Australia, and Spain.A failed bid by Ladbrokes last year of 70p a share was unsuccessful. Will this if successful have any effect on their Sponsorship deal of Guernsey FC?

They would have even more money Mr Smudge and we could put in bids for UK players to help us out midweek away. Redrup for GFC !

Anyone else in the CCL you'd spend money on, purely from a fantasy football viewpoint ?

To answer your question, I hear Sportingbet are keen to stick with us for a while yet. Imagine the publicity when we win the Vase (your bet not mine).......

They Sportingbet were valued at £1 billion during the Ladbrokes failed bid,now they are valued at £300 million in the current takeover talks.Guernsey will win the Vase,I am convinced of it,they have the credentials of a lot of the past winners. They win their League by miles, then do not get promoted, the past winners did not want promotion though.Guernsey do of course, but feel they will not due to ground issues.Players in the CCL worth recommending, beside Redrup, there are not any, better than what you have.

It will be interesting if they do get bought by ladbrokes. Not sure they will retain the guernsey office? In which case I doubt they will continue to sponsor GFC beyond what had already been agreed (whilst honouring the current commitment you would hope).

Not sure any other local/national firms would be willing to put a lot of cash into GFC although I don't know what is out there really. I was just thinking from an economic point of view.

I could only see a takeover as positive I'm sure William Hill would want to keep up sponsorship and we have had a lot of exposure it would only be good for them as well.

If we could sort the ground issues we have and climb a league or 2 we would still be a good investment for them.

The William Hill Stadium, a new ground in Guernsey ? I can only dream but you never know ! Its a funny old game !

Sorry, meant will hill.

And GD I can't necessarily see William hill taking over the sponsorship. Sporting bet donut as they are a 'local' company looking to get involved (ad well as the obvious advertising). But I can't see a non local company sponsoring GFC.

It does matter if our sponsor comes from Guernsey, Isle of Man or Iraq ! As long as they get good exposure its worth their while.

I don't see Arsenal turning down Emirates ( I think that's how you spell it ! ) because they aren't from England !

Arsenal tend to get more fans watching their games...

At this level you are more likely to get the garden centres etc like smudge said. The difference with GFC is that they need a bigger sponsor so someone like earlswood won't be able to cut the mustard.

The trouble is a uk based sponsor isn't likely to be interested due to a lack of exposure (especially if they have no presence in guernsey).

Sportingbet have both a local presence and a uk one so they are fine. There won't be many like that though unless a bank gets involved.

Mr. Dewnship works for Rothschild's, I believe.

The Rothschild Stadium perhaps?

We've had excellent exposure. We've been in many national newspaper articles about the club. We've been in non league magazines many times we have our own TV channel ( web based ). We have been mentioned on Sky by Matt Le Tissier many times. We have been filmed by Sky.

If we go up a few leagues the exposure and interest in the club will grow and grow.

We are a great investment for sponsors.

William Hill are on every High Street in the UK, so exposure is probably not an issue for them. The off shore angle may be an issue but the isle of Man is bigger than Guernsey in that regard (for gaming business that is). Is it a big deal though? Do we really think the chaps at GFC would have entered into this thinking the initial sponsorship would defo be renewed? Very much doubt it. The club needs to lay roots, establish and grow. And it can. If the fans remain true to the cause.

Mentioned in the non league magazine? Filmed by sky (and shown for what, 10 mins?)? Mentioned by Le Tissier occasionally on sky sports? Massive companies must be queing up to sponsor us!

Who are you expecting to sponsor us shoul Sportingbet not continue?

The Guernsey 'product' is a good one, and I would have thought that the business plan would have been solid enough that Guernsey can make it to the Ryman/Southern Premier in five years even allowing for worst case scenarios (loss of sponsor/ground issues etc.)

You could always ask Steve Lansdown to come on board, now that he is no longer directly involved with Bristol City. I am sure he has a few links.

There's also always companies like Greene King, Bulmer's, Brains, Marstons, Diageo (Drinks Industry) or Liverpool Victoria, Standard Life, Friends Provident (Financial Sector) who could be interested in Guernsey - most of these have sponsored a sports team before.

Bit of a random list! And it's "Friends Life" now.

Quite right Bomaya, although they'll probably be called something else next year.
