CCL PREMIER TUESDAY 18 SEPTEMBER 2012

EGHAM TOWN 3 (1) BADSHOT LEA 2 (1)

Egham Town scorers: Jamie Read (5), Brendan Matthew (64), Enrico Rossoni (93)

Lee Passmore’s first game in charge as Egham Town boss resulted in a dramatic 3-2 with a late winner by sub Enrico Rossoni. With six players having left for pastures Chipstead the first team selection understandably included some of the youth team, but crucially skipper Arran Taylor-Ives was back from America to partner Junior Wright in central defence. Josh Andrew’s departure meant Matt Smith, who was signed by John Hamsher as a midfielder, at right back and a dead leg for keeper Paul Borg meant Josh Henry went between the posts.

Striker Jamie Read, whose appearances had begun to look increasingly rare under the former regime (ignored on Saturday against South Park with the score 0-2 in favour of Smith) took just five minutes to spark an entertaining, if occasionally feisty, night of football. He broke from midfield down the inside left channel before hitting an exquisite cross shot that pinged in off the inside of Matt Watson’s left post. For the next half hour Egham looked like a side determined that they could keep calm and carry on after the events of the preceding few days, but were pegged back with a goal by Ross Mullard off a free kick whose award was dubious.

The second half saw three goals and several bookings as the temperature on the pitch rose, starting with a first minute challenge by Egham’s Brendan Matthew on Michael Smith. Cautions for James Brown, Jamie Houghton and Lea’s Darren Blake quickly followed. Egham had calls for a spot kick turned away after Read got a shove in the back but settled to take the lead again with a glancing header by Matthew off Smith’s curling free kick, the ball again going in off the goal frame. Henry made a crucial and impressive double save from Josh Pearson but was cruelly exposed by a defensive lapse that let Adam Cornell score for 2-2. At this stage even the optimists would have been happy with a draw. Jake Galbraith made a great intervention to stop Dan Ker putting the visitors ahead, while Junior Wright was off receiving treatment for a knock that saw him subbed by Alex Rodrigues. Cornell missed a good chance to snatch the point from Egham, heading wide from a superb position. Finally, three minutes into time added on, Rossoni, who half an hour earlier had replaced Mathew, received a pass from Smith and jinked his way into the box. With retreating defenders afraid of tackling him while simultaneously obscuring the view of their own keeper Egham's Italian maestro finished with a deft sweep of his right peg to snatch a superb win.

Egham travel to Farnham Town on Saturday, then on Tuesday goes to Whyteleafe’s ground to face their tenants Warlingham (CCL One) in the EL Records Premier Challenge Cup.

aka Even the Tempest Ward and Egg&Ham would have been happy with a draw. UK Sub, Trigger and the smashed Badger thought otherwise.

Joking aside...Well done to all the players tonight. I am one VERY proud Sarnie !

I played my 100th game for Wembley tonight but we beaten by a Levi free kick that flew into the top corner a truly magnificent strike.I did however make one the best saves of long career when we were 1-0 up.

Once again we've come away with feck all from a game deserved a point! Oh well weekend off and then frimley at home in the cup.

Could be the team to challenge GFC Bommy

I'd say its a bit too early to say really there's a few teams getting good results at the top but I expect some will start to slip away as the season progress's. Egham beating Badshot was a big result but they have to stay consistant as with all teams.

It seems a lot of the top 5 or 6 are evenly matched ( GFC aside ! ;-) ) and are already taking points from each other.

Other sides are changing management, pay structures and players are changing teams left right and centre chasing cash and creating bad feeling. None of this helps with consistency.

We don't pay players, we have a solid management base and our players are loyal = CONSISTENCY

GFC are playing consistently well as like last year. Consistency is the key to winning the league this year.

Chessington vs molesey last night was probably a wrong choice of game, 2 average sides playing a lot of chances but very little football.

I been to see molesey 3 times this season and they really look like a team that can't seem to gel. There skipper only one who looked like he wanted to play no 8 think he was.

Chessington were the better side last night with there forwards causing trouble to the molesey defence all game, No 11 looked sharp. Molesey only team unbeaten now so fair play to them.

Think gonna take a break from molesey for a while and move on to south park hearing good things about them at the moment good 4-0 win over a useful raynes park vale!

Cheers johnno, good game?what were Knaphill like

Lots of players obviously playing for Knaphill for the first time. No great quality from anyone. Only real decent player was Knowles who i think was No7. We only had 3 players play that started on Saturday. Everyone else were squad players or trialists.

Good run out for all and nice to see everyone in the bar afterwards.

Sounds like a corking game. I was tipping Egham to be the contenders to Guernsey in this league, but what with the management shuffle, and ultimate player shuffle, I wondered if they would recover and sustain their good form.

I remember watching Jamie Read some 10 years ago when he was in the Bedfont FC first team. Is a top notch player if given a good run of games. He will surely be like a new signing for Egham.
