Lino's hamstrings

Overheard a lino on Saturday say that the reason they don't kick back on a ball that's a few feet away or don't stop a ball running away off the pitch is because they might pull a hamstring and at this level there's usually no replacement available so the game would have to be abandoned. Was he being serious?

And running up and down a line changing direction won't pull one ! Lol

He may have been, but that is not the true reason

lino stops the ball with a minute to go and one side scores winner from the throw, other side not happy.

personally I think they should put down the flag and run out to the car park or village pond and get the ball back.

us twats by the bar and sidelines can call the offsides well enough while the linos do something usefull....

Match officials are advised not to stop, collect, roll back balls etc. The job is at all times to concentrate on the FOP and the players. And as previous poster stated, can you imagine the outcry if an Assistant Referee stopped a ball which resulted in a quick throw in from which a goal is scored!

But I can tell you, hamstrings & knees take a right battering on these really hard pitches. Most officials would agree that running the line can be more physically demanding than being in the middle. Not to mention being very close to all the 'expert advice' freely offered from the stand!

But if we did'nt love football, we would'nt do it.

That's good banter, fair play to him ;)

Is that part of their kit now John? No wonder the lino at our game today looked like he had his knickers in a twist!

I have been asked by a League Official not to make any further comment on the subject, other than to say, Officials MAY be sponsored by Ann Summers next season !!
