Gamesmanship and cheating....

Following last Saturdays game at Wimbledon where the Rochdale players dived around without any contact, clutched untouched faces as if poleaxed by Muhammad Ali, a debate began about gamesmanship and cheating and whether it was teh same at all levels of senior football.

From the range of football I have seen over the last 10 years (every one of the 9 levels) I believe it is worse in the league to the extent that more teams are "at it", but you get players all the way down the league that cheat.

Others believe it is the same all the way down.

It certainly happens in the CCL ,as anyone who saw the Hanworth Villa forward "do a Klinsmann" before getting booked at RPV could testify, but I don't think it is anywhere near as bad?

Do people agree??

If so is it because the players and managers are more likely to know each other at this level as people move from club to club?

We had an incident on Sat. One of our players grabbed a Colliers Wood player by his shirt and shoved him heavily in the chest, two handed, and made the player fall. He rightly got sent off for that. Why the player needed to lay on the floor holding his face as though he had been hit in the face was beyond me.

Players simply copy what they see on TV, needs stamping out at the top and then it will filter down.

Too easy an answer. These are grown men for christ sake not easily influenced teenagers who copy their heroes.

It was refreshing to see Harper the Newcastle GK make sure the referee didn't book Anichebe in the PL game last night after the forward caught him in a genuine attempt to block the ball.

Because Harper didn't make a meal of it, no other player got involved and the handbags were kept put away. Would have been interesting to see how a foreign GK would have reacted, but I have a feeling it wouldn't have been in the same manor!!

Saw that Jurg and I think it was a lot to do with the atmosphere on the night that was condusive to it. Same with the tackle that was made by MF. Defender didnt make a meal of that either. It was good to see.

Have you ever watched a premier league game GD? Far worse is seen every weekend of every season.

Not sure why you require HKP to back up your point. The Guernsey press report is available for all to read online. I'm sure this is very similar to your view.

The Press's reports are normally ok but rarely controversial. They will always tend to water down any teams antics ( don't know why ).

If you want an accurate honest no BS report on a match just ask me. I will always say if a team deserved to beat us ( I posted a few congratulation messages to teams who beat us fair and square last season ).

I tell it as it is no BS some people won't like me because of that but I don't pussy foot around I tell the truth. I believe in being honest Like it or lump it !

You keep telling yourself that. It's nice that you have such a positive view of yourself.

Obviously whenever people disagree with your view, they are wrong. It's surprising that someone with such an extensive knowledge of the game isn't utilised by your club.

Wrong Daniel,he classes them as liars.

Unfortunately GD everyones main focus is to win over at footes lane,,albeit how is irrelevant. A massive achievement by Eversley, which I'm sure there proud off. Results don't give detail accounts of what happened during the game, just clearly state the winners. Which I'm sure would have been Sav's one and only priority. At whatever cost.

If a club wants to win like that they can't have any morals. If Guernsey ever once played like they did I wouldn't support them anymore its as simple as that.

But I know that won't happen. Why ? Because the players are a great bunch of down to earth guys with a great attitude and superb moral standards. Tony Vance would never let us play in an unsportsmanlike way. If a player ever did behave in an unsportsmanlike way I'm sure he would get the hairdryer treatment from big Fal.

Guernsey FC will never win 'at whatever cost', we will only win in the way we know how and the right way, fairly.

Another original response GD.

Happy to leave this conversation, rather than enter into a petty argument. Personally I have a lot of respect for Guernsey FC (especially Steve who I still keep in contact with wishing the club all the best).

Itks been said on here before that your tone and views are negatively impacting the views of others of the club. In a few years, once you've experienced non league football, you may chose to engage in conversatioms rather than swipe at other clubs on public forums.

It is obvious that there's more cheating seen every week in premiership games than in CCL and other "non league" games. Also it's obvious why. If you're being paid every week the equivalent of an ordinary man's annual wage, you want to make sure you continue to get paid that at any cost. You may have started out as a lover of the game but it's very easy to get corrupted when there's so much money sloshing around.

what a dreamer,as soon as the going gets tough and you stop winning nearly every week im sure like most sides you will find that winning fairly is not the only option

It takes 2 to tango if I'm saying anything negative or arguing there's another person provoking me. I'm being constantly attacked on here even when I'm posting nice comments about people ! So of course I'm going to argue back !
