Cray Wanderers and Bromley

Kingstonian and AFC Wimbledon

Internazionale and AC Milan

Bayern Munich and 1860 Munich

so maybe three southern ones have worked?

there is a difference between two clubs deciding to have one stadium in the city, and a club leaving its home town to just play its matches at someone elses ground.

Kingstonian and AFC Wimbledon? Perhaps, but if AFC Wimbledon didnt exist would Kingstonian have gone higher up the leagues, or would they have struggled to survive?

There are plenty more around the UK - FCUM and Bury, Romulus and Sutton Coldfield, for example.

They can and do work if both parties want them to and one isn't trying to screw over the other one.

they are the exception, though, most fail one of the clubs.

What Im getting at with groundsharing is where one "club" just pays another club for the priviledge of playing its first team games.

The home club is playing football god, sometimes choosing which club thrives and which doesnt.

The sharing club is often effectively just renting a ground for the game, doesnt have a reserve or youth team, trains somewhere else, has no "home' in the clubhouse, no income from ground etc.

Yeah, but that's because some people at some clubs aren't living in the real world.

FCUM are at Bury. Bury are charging them £80k a season. It's a rip-off price and it's only going for one more season until FCUM get their own ground but they can afford it from their gates.

When you get the likes of Bookham using Dorking or Lammas using Ashford it makes you wonder why anyone would fund this as they're obviously not covering the rental costs from their gate money and it's never going to be a long term share as equal partners so why bother?

I wish I had more money than sense like some of these people.

As usual VP talks more sense on this subject than most. In fairness though he has known our plight for over twenty years. Thanks AK, I wish you were accurate with your assumptions, but regrettably this wasn't really the case at the time and the club deserves to be exactly where it is right now.

Tsf you're guessing again, I warned you about that. While on the subject of unhelpful councils though, we have never asked for money and wouldn't dream of asking for hundreds of thousands (cuckoo). They placed a ground as a priority in their Borough plan way back in the nineties but the people in charge of the finances of the club and the council never really made the effort, despite it being there in black and white.

Nice guy, interest on not much equals..... not much. I have referred to financial mismanagement before and the damage was done long, long ago.

There are a number of stories of which I am 99% certain, but there is 1% speculation involved so that's why I'm not writing them down here. You are quite welcome to ask me at a game, but you'd have to identify yourself first as I couldn't just be talking to anyone now, could I.

Thanks hammer59 I wasn't aware that our actual club were approached that long ago, I just thought it was the Manager only. While we're on the subject though, does anyone now have a spare Saturday and a home pitch after departing the Vase, seeing as Horley have been very unreasonable today and won their Vase match, as I thought they might, so we now have another blank Saturday projected for 13th October!!

Finally, just to clarify for the benefit of any who don't realise, these are my PERSONAL viewpoints under my own account. I'll be more diplomatic on our own club website but I'll write what I like here.
