Wembley FC - running scared?

As a result of South Park's progress in the Cup I asked our League Secretary whether we could play Wembley, seeing as they were also at a loose end on 22nd September. I even asked their Manager on twitter this morning and he said that he would speak to his Secretary and we'd get a response.

The official response came out later today saying that "the Manager has already made alternative arrangementsfor the day in question". Hmm. He seemed quite keen to sort things out this morning.

I can only conclude therefore that Wembley don't fancy it.

Instead they will now travel to Chipstead on Saturday 22nd December as originally planned. I almost hope we get a frozen pitch that day, so that they have to travel on a midweek. :P

That's interesting E & E ed, you fancied taking on lowly Wembley but not high flying molesey.look forward to playing at chipstead anytime of the yr, day or night as its a decent pitch.

I'm disappointed in your post.

so he said hed speak to the secretary and youd get a response, which you got E+e ED.

Maybe he was polite and positive to your tweet, but actually had plans for the day which he wanted to double check would stand.

No harm done , no foul.

"Wembley running scared"? what a strange headline and thread.

The only club I see running is epsom and ewell, from one ground to another.

Weve now got two clubs from Epsom, both playing outside Epsom. Glass houses and stones.

What's the position now at Wembley, Pearcey? I appreciate the all stars have gone but is Venables still involved or has he gone too? I assume the games are no longer being followed by ESPN now.

It's all as you were before the circus arrived.I believe terry still talks to Ian but we haven't seen him.dream on is for 8 Shows, there might be another series depending on the success of this one.

Well I am quite enjoying the show, especially with Pearcey's new fitness regime!

wtf has a ground got to do with this post? We have recently moved grounds because we were offered a better deal. Is that ok with you? We lost our ground in 1993 and are still paying for the fact that some of our people mismanaged the club in the eighties. When considering that we hold the record for the longest continual groundshare at one venue (17 years) then running is the last thing we've been doing, but you just saw an opprtunity to take a cheap shot at a club with financial difficulties. Hmm.

This matter has absolutely b*gger all to do with the lack of a ground. As for what their manager said to me, I know and you don't, so don't guess, because you were wrong the first time.

With reference to any potential Molesey game, I am informed that they approached the Manager not the club. By the time the club were aware of it, it was very short notice and some of our players were unavailable. Most people, me included still thought that they couldn't play at home anyway. Even Smudge didn't know as advised above, so it clearly wasn't common knowledge. I can understand them wanting to remove a December fixture though, which was what we were trying to do.

I just thought it was odd that Wembley didn't want to make one of their longer journeys of the season next week when just four days earlier they were due to travel round the M25 anyway. We're behind on fixtures and didn't want a second blank week, simple as that. It also seemed like a great opportunity to avoid playing on 22nd December when there is a much greater likelihood of postponement and midweek rearrangement.

Very simple really, but clearly over your head tsf.

Most teams want to play when the oportunity arises and seeing as lots of people moan about fixture pile ups later in the season it seemed a good thing to do. We'll see if it is an issue later in the season.

Anyways, whatever, the chance has gone now.

It costs money for every year we are away and we have been away quite a while. We have very few years of existence left at the current rate.

Thanks for your insight, Krooner. I thought it was always lunch time for you :)

Could always share at Dorking ED,heard they could do with a few bob.And more local of course.

They might as well go to Chessington and merge with Athletic.

I just dont see why clubs try to survive against the odds by groundsharing , when its financially crippling for so many.

How many people still connected with the club were there when Epsom were in Epsom? Some of the players wouldnt even have been born.
