Community Clubs?

My advice, in a nutshell, was 'Get your act together and realise this is a club which depends upon the support of the community. Stop bickering, stop being precious and realise that in a few years your club could be dead if you ignore the blatantly obvious.'

I even managed to get an Arsenal Celebrity XI to agree to turn up, only for the wormy secretary (an old battleaxe Grandma) to cancel it behind my back as 'it's not the sort of thing we need at the club.' Yet 100s of locals were going to come along, and the local farmer was going to put a stall up and give complimentary produce to the celebrities in a gift box.

It was useless with them lot. As for the beer, warm and soot-like (special reserve for me...)

I would say GFC is trying to be a community club. They do charity stuff, get involved with local initiatives, hospital visits etc. there's also a GFC soccer school run over the summer (possibly during the season too?).

They don't however have any youth teams which in my opinion is a good thing as they would just Hoover up the best young players and to an extent ruin the current youth set up (which must be half decent anyway as its provided GFC with all it's players). Ball

Boys are provided by clubs/soccer schools on a rotation basis.

I believe it's quite expensive to be a mascot but they have to make money somehow and that's obviously a way to do so. If it coul be done for free I have no doubt they would.

They lack their own facilities so can't hire them out etc.

So I'd say they are a community club in as much as they can be.

Suppose the 1st page did not help,'Get rid of the people running the Club comment' I lasted 2 meetings when I once sat on a Football Committee. Then asked not to attend again.SO NO HOW YOU FELT.

Ha! I can beat you Smudge. One meeting I lasted at Merstham although I did resign so I guess it was my own fault.

I thought that everybody's worst nightmare was Big Brother ;)

I could send you a copy of the document I did if you want, Chubbs - makes War and Peace and The Bible look like a pamphlet.

If I've written 40 pages, it would be interesting to know the amount contributed by Rhodes, Smudge and others...

So what should I write about then, Chubby?

A community club for me is one that does it best to be part of and help in the community. Whether that be visiting sick children in hospital, raiising money for charity or just providing good facilities for all parts of the community.

Was lovely to see Guernsey make a presentation to a little boy who has been fighting a brave battle against Leukaemia and to hear the players had been writing to him every week during his illness. This is what a community club is all about.
