bjr
Thoroughly enjoyed yesterday's game, the first time I have been to the donkey dome as I'm still working abroad. The ground is fantastic and a true testament to the hard work of the committee and the supporters. So good to see the club moving forward. The first half was scrappy, with both teams over hitting final passes. We started to hold possession and string some good, flowing moves together for the last 10 minutes or so of the first half, so I felt we would have the edge in the second half - as it proved. But I thought the st. Margeretsbury 9 & 10 linked well together, so our centre backs needed to stay sharp to stop either from nicking a goal. Much better second half performance, with the two standout players for me being Tyler Campbell and our number 8 - sorry I don't know his name! Liam Hope's finish was typically astute - he's got an excellent first touch and I can see why he's scoring so freely. I'm sure he'll continue to score regularly in the league. First time I've seen Kirkby play and I can see why he is club captain. Excellent in the air and a good leader. Deceptively mobile, too. The final score of 2-0 was about right. The manager is absolutely right to keep a lid on expectations. The Ryman premier is a quality league. If we finish out of the bottom three it's job done, and if we finish mid-table or above - which we are well capable of doing - it will have been a good season. And here's hoping for a decent cup run too!! My guess is the crowd was close to 400, which will certainly help the club's finances if we get a good run going in the league and the cup. Good to see some familiar faces in the crowd, though after so long away it struck me how the supporters age together but the players get younger - except Bryan Hammett of course!! Good to see him still going strong - his experience can only help the likes of Tyler Campbell. Now I need to do my bit and post my season ticket money off....
