very comfortable 4-1 win for slough

Lingfield were quite bright 1st half but offered very little 2nd half until they won a penalty for handball

like tuesday we started quite nervously but once we got it going looked pretty good

into the next round and thats all that matters

4-1 with goals from Rhone, NBH and another two for Ed Smith. Sean Fraser had another very good game on the right.

Lingfield threatened in the first 10 or 15 minutes but once we got ahead we were the only winners. We could have doubled our score.

A very comfortable win after our usual slow start. I thought Sean Fraser and Ed Smith had very good games.

We created many goal chances in the second half and on another day might rue our lack of finishing.

Another nice win bonus from the FA and looking forward to the FA Cup draw on Monday.

After winning 4-1 and creating enough good chances to have doubled the score should give an indication that we played very well, but I'm afraid IMO I don't think we played that well at all.

We were slow out of the blocks and made a distinctly average Lingfield team look quite good. We settled a bit better after we got the first goal but still continued to huff and puff in midfield without ever looking like we were going to get to grips with that area of the pitch.

The plus point for me was to win comfortably without playing that well, the negative was our central midfield, unless we sort that area of the park out IMO we will continue to struggle against the better teams.

We need to find players comfortable playing in those central midfield roles. Sean Fraser is a classic example - he's a wing back, knows his job and does it well. Likewise Ed Smith and Danny Burnell. I don't feel that with our midfield at the moment. It feels like they are playing unfamiliar roles and therefore spend a lot of time out of position trying to work out where they should be.

Totally agree Ian.

I just don't think we have any leaders or players that could win many battles in midfield.

Quite a few times this year we will come up against teams that will not have a midfield as skilful as ours but will win the midfield by sticking their foot in and out-battling us, a bit like Guildford did and Uxbridge did in the second half.

Ollie Burgess and Swifty are non tackling skilful touch players, IMO to play them together against the tough tackling better teams would be a mistake.

With that in mind think logie had another very good game. And has been superb so far this season in midfield as just slowing down oppo play and getting his foot in. Looks like I am alone in thinking our midfield was superb today and it was only some bad decision making mainly by smith, who was on a hat trick to be fair, that meant we didn't get double figures.

How many defensive players do we need 5 along the back then Adam Logie in front of them that's 6 we put any more in there the next thing is, we aren't creating any chances or scoring, the forwards are isolated.

As I said before at the moment it's down to confidence,

ADDED

and the confidence showed as the game got nearer the end.

Totally agree Ian.

Starting to wonder who will be shipped out if we sign the players SB wants from Windsor this week and the re-signing of Sinclair (Who I think was signed in the pre-season otherwise I cannot understand how he has served his ban!)...

Now we've got Sinclair and if we sign say 3 from Windsor, I think both Deeney's, Fowler and Smith will depart!
