NonLeagueBerty
Hi guys, long time listener, first time caller... Been meaning to ask for a while- What is the strongest Sunday League in the South Midlands catchment area? You guys must play in some of them? Also what about feeder leagues? I've seen Belstone FC play 3 times this year and they have numerous ex South Mids playing for them in the Herts County. Merritt, Blackburne x2, Till, Sentance etc.. Is that the feeder league to be in? Thanks for your time guys. Hopefully this doesnt go off topic like others I've been reading... one man in particular! Berty. Winslow Boy
I know one of the sides in Aylesbury has a lot of guys who play and have played Southern League and South mids prem they reached the FA Sunday cup at Anfield last year or year before I think. They certainly got to semi. I'm not sure if there is a particular league that is strong but certainly a couple of sides in Aylesbury and MK have ridiculously good teams. NonLeagueBerty
What about feeder leagues, Winslow boy? Do the likes of Dunstable/Aylesbury mind their players playing on Sundays? Seems bizzare to me if they are getting dough on a Saturday...
Winslow Boy
What about feeder leagues, Winslow boy? Do the likes of Dunstable/Aylesbury mind their players playing on Sundays? Seems bizzare to me if they are getting dough on a Saturday... The ADL and North bucks, hearts county I think all feed into SSML providing tw clubs have adaquate facilities, of course those leagues are saturday, I assume there is a beds league that also feeds in. Some clubs ban their players from playing on Sunday especially if they are contracted or on decent money however the players more often than not do what they like. Over the years we have lost players through injury and suspension from playing on Sunday. I've got to say though there are a few on here that are far more clued up on these things than I. Perhaps KB, Horace, Loose, HTFCew et al could provide a much more concise answer.
Karen Browne
Suspensions thesedays do not come into it under the new Match Based Discipline. (Unless the offence warrants a Misconduct charge then the suspension is from all football)
Munchkin
Milton Keynes Sunday league is poor standard and they suffer in the top league with Stony Stratford Sunday running away with it. Always found quite an apathy to Sunday football in MK this is shown by no teams ever entering the FA national cup. The Berkhamsted (includes hemel & tring) and Watford Sunday leagues are on the other hand very competitive with 5 or 6 divisions. I know there are several clubs in these leagues with players from Oxhey Jets, kings Langley, Ting Athletic and Leverstock Green. In terms of feeder leagues I think the Herts County League has proven to be very strong, with previous clubs in my playing time moving up And doing very well, including Kings Langley, Oxhey, Sun Postal, London Lions and Codicote this season. And as for the quality sides it boasts, not exactly the Greenleys or Wishing Well or Doyles we used to once know.

Completely agree even only 3 years ago there were at least 3 sides that could have won the prem, now there is one. As for the current committee, power trip springs to mind. They played St Joseph's in a National Cup semi, proper men then, compared to the Stony of today defo men v boys. Yep the MK Sunday League is total garbage now, think most even turn up sober these days which wasn't a done thing back then, and they could still play good football despite having just rolled out of a club from the night before. No13
Know people go on about projected earnings in the SSML, know back just in the 90's some players got paid to play in the MK Sunday League. One was even plying his trade at St.Albans on a Saturday but never missed the opportunity of earning an extra few quid on a Sunday, haha imagine that now, not a chance
Munchkin
I think Improvements in the national game and filtering of money down the leagues has had an effect on Sunday football. As has the increased 5-a-side leagues around the country. But MK does seem a lot worse than other areas within the SSMFL league. The cost of Sunday football is also quite astounding (c. £70-£100 a pitch), but the drop out of teams for the MK league appears higher than other leagues I have played in. I'm relatively new to MK (7 years on and off) so have little idea of the older teams, although obviously heard of Greenleys and their dominance. The team in question are Elm Farm who reached the quarter finals, losing out to a team from Liverpool who reached the final. Elm Farm coincidentally beat Stony Stratford 5-0 in the county cup as well last year but have since folded. The strongest team around at the moment is Britannia United from Aylesbury who won the quadruple last year and will be looking to go further in the national cup. A lot of their players have played/play a good level on Saturdays, they had Jefferson Louis signed on last year. Unfortunately, the Aylesbury league has seen its number of teams decrease dramatically over the past couple of seasons, I believe just 17 are taking part over 2 divisions this year, with Britannia set to win eveything again.
