Bognor v Margate Updates

The important stuff:

they had some really scrumptuous bread pudding on sale at the tea hut

it has to be said that the lady selling programmes was more attractive than mr k lewis.

the really important stuff:

we did not concede the nil

onto the game:

its not often you come away with a 2-o win after being played off the park for 55 minutes (not just outplayed-but given a drubbing )credit for hanging on in there and after 20 minutes you were just praying for half time.

Bognor hit woodwork three times in first half, holloway made 2 great saves; and its not that margatew were that poor-frankly bognor were really good.

(admittedly murphy had one chance-a one on one which he pushed wide.

in first ten minutes of second half ,bognor again hit the woodwork, and another fabulous save/tip over bar from holloway.

you sort of hoped that they could not keep it up at that level-and thats what seemed to happen.

Again-credit to margate for 'hanging on in there '

then we got back into it-and for remaining 35 minutes were marginally the better side, scored two goals (the second went under their keepers body, and at the same time-both murphy and dolby missed one on ones.

what changed-maybe it was what CK sadid at half time-but to me-it was more how bognor changed things.

in the first half-bognor played just two/three at the back-literally two defenders only most of the time/with 4 in midfield and sometimes 5 up front.it was a 2-3-5 really odd-but they were really dominant.

for whatever reason-they went to a back four second half and lost a bit of dominance in midfield.

first half-we had no midfield prescence at all-frankly-stubbs was poor in first half, but in second half stubbs was great and ran midfield -some great through ball-whereas first half their no 8 -willis-(can we sgn him) ran the show.

We were also exposed constantly down the left where rhodes gave no cover/defensive support for pooley.

I am sure rhodes will have better games for margate.

good goal from murphy second half-and somewhat fortunate gola for dolby-under keepers body-who credit to him='who ate all the pies '-took it in good spirit.

Frankly-we did get away with it-how long will the luck hold-just hope it does'nt run out next saturday.

I think i also shows that we are about 2 players short of being genuine play-off contenders (not withstanding that corneille and rook were out )

at end of season though-it will just be seen as three points-and as i say many times-could'nt care leass how we do it-and today-we did it-marvellous.

what is probably as important is that its 3 points against a team who if they play to 80% of the way they played for 55 minutes-they will be top 5;but again credit to Margate for hanging on-and indeed =being marginally the better side for the last 35 minutes.

lovely day out-nice pitch, fairly warm ,referee who made some minor erors-but generally did welland had a bit of sense of humour.

3 points-ecstatic

Looks like I'm the first home. Bognor will consider themselves unlucky to lose and, on another day, things could have gone their way. First half Holloway made a great full length save, they hit the bar and had one cleared off the line. Our best chance was when Murphy was put through but shot wide.

Early second half Holloway made a great save and Bognor hit the inside of the post with a shot from 20 yards.

Our first goal was the result of great work by Dolby who harassed one of their defenders in his own box. He gave the ball away and Murphy shot into the far corner. Dolby was then put through but, just as he was about to round the keeper, stood on the ball. However, he did make it 2-0 when he shot low past their keeper (who went down in instalments) from the left side of the box.

Bognor looked a reasonable side and should finish mid-table. We look very professional.

i think bognor finally realised that it was not their day in the 92nd minute when two players were through on holloway and they conspired to mess it up.

that given-in the 93rd minute-in similar circumstances-dloby and alaile (playing at centre forward ) conspired to mess up a similar opportunity-but by then -we did'nt care !!
