Player of the month award

Can we not somehow ressurrect this.

Its always nice to see a player each month rewarded (on the pitch & before a game) for outstanding efforts over the month, then photographed with that reward & sent to the local paper. This used to happen on a regular basis if I recall correctly.

Yes,I know at present many would be up for this award, including the whole team but it would be an extra incentive I would have thought for the individual player to want to do well and that can only be good for the team & results. If all 11 put in extra effort as has been shown thus far it can only be a positive thing surely.

Cannot the club pitch in with a bottle of bubbly each month. (Surely its only a couple of entrance fees or three per award). Lets remember its not the size of the award that counts but the amount of appreciation from us onlookers to a particular player for exceptional consistency over the month.

I personally have asked around for sponsorship of such but am awaiting the return of a certain off licence owner to chat to over this.

Until such time as I can get to speak to him is there a way the club can help out on this, or for anyone else to acquire a sponsor.

Of course it dosent have to be a bottle of bubbly as is the norm,it could be another prize.

Surely every incentive we can give to the players the better.

Maybe the supporters could put up a bottle of bubbly once each during the season & present it to the player.I'm willing to fork out for one.How about others offering to purchase & present one too. How many do we need..8?

Somehow can we get this back up & running?

How it is decided upon can be down to the individual sponsor or the supporters or the club officials or the CEO or by M.I.S.A.or by a combination of ALL perhaps.

When I took over the site, I asked Niki for the log-in details to resurrect the Player of the Month. However, he ponted out that there was a lot of dodgy voting going on and some players were winning it by a mile despite having only played 5 minutes!

However, it is something I plan to code into the next version, initially sitting quietly in the background, ready to be activated if needed. There will be stricter rules to prevent multiple votes and probably a system where you have to log-in to vote.

If the club want it to happen, it may be better to start it as soon as possible to get the full season in. If that is the case, I could implement it in the current site.

Some people have multiple ID's Andy , plus you sometimes get spoilers on here, though not so much as we used too.

If this goes ahead I am quite happy to supply the champagne for the player of the month.

How about If you sponsor a bottle you decide, and if its not to someones liking TOUGH!

Much rather have the club do this first though with Cliff (as he seems to get to most games home & away or by consulting the other members of the borad who regularly go to matches home & away, deciding).

After all they would be the ones donating the award . Again if the decision is not to others liking, again TOUGH!

Some lucky player no matter who it is will benfit from all our apprecitation and that's mainly what it's all about.

If the start of this season is anything to go by I reckon the majority of players will deserve the award anyway so no-one will want to disagree.

Why "sad to say" Tony? The club already funds 21+ (home cup games) bottles of champagne for an official Man of the match. To add another 8 or so offcial awards seems a bit like overkill. As you suggest, if MISA want to do somethng that's a different kettle of fish.

On the question of a poll on the official site, the voting in the past was a pain. Notwithstadning the largely subjective nature of assessing performance, the poll often did not reflect how the player that won actually performed. And re-inforcing what Steve B has said, until we have a process to ensure the validity of voters we'll not have a poll on the official site.

Oh dear looks like I've upset someone, unintentionally. "Sad to say" was used in dissappointment & not as some might think with sarcasm in mind. Apologies if it was misinterpreted.

I am merely disappointed that the club haven't taken this on board in the first instance thats all but am in no way damming them for not doing so. In fact I have been given sound advice & direction by Cliff as to who to approach in my next effort of trying to get this award re-introduced & I thank him for that. Might I add that the club hasn't knocked this back in so many words.I just got the impression it wasn't to be.

Wellsie,I disagree that adding more rewards is overkill. It should give more incentive & that surely can't be a bad thing. We are on a good run & have made very good start to the season & the more incentives we can give to the players the better,I would have thought.

A monthly award rewards a player for consistency over a monthly period unlike the m.o.t.m award which might see a player rewarded for an instantaneous bit of magic rather than the 90 minutes contribution. If we can get 11 players out there playing consistently over a month or even better a season then things should look good for all of us,players, supporters & club alike come the seasons end.

I take on board the m.o.t.m awards information you have mentioned, and the already generous contribution the club are making of which I had forgotton had a bottle of bubbly accompanying the actual announcement of m.o.t.m.

I have used the promp given to me & am at present awaiting a reply. If nothing comes of that I will put it out to the supporter to finance. Thus far I have had exeptional feedback but this choice will be dependant & subject on any forthcoming news from .M.I.S.A.

Finally voting.

You say voting dosen't always reflect the true form of a player when awards are made.Indeed you are correct.I can think of many a time the m.o.t.m has been declared by a sponsor & his guests where in truth that player may not have, overall in a match, been the star player/major contributor. However that decision has always been accepted by others despite those same others being in disagreement. You'll never ever get everyone agreeing.

So,in similar fashion, but more importantly with the aide of supporters on the forum, whoever decides to sponsor this should have a major & final say in any decision made, helped by input on our forum by the supporters (mfc) as to whom they believe has been ultra consistent, enough to warrant consideration.

That "nomination" thread, together with their reasons for nominating, added to the sponsors idea of a winner should be enough to come up with a worthy winner. This eleviates any need for a poll anywhere or/and any outside intrusion.

Which ever way you arrange the deck chairs, MFC uses the money to support MOM. When you sit down and talk to people and understand what covers what costs, you understand that their is still a lot of costs to be covered by which ever means.

seems like 'overkill' to me -but there again-i'm a miserable old git.

To vote for player of month-does that not mean you need to have seen every match that month to be able to make a fair judgement-how many do that ?

You can judge a team/manager on oints accumulated-as it is measurable.

Unless you see every game-how can you make a judgement ?

In april-if a player makes one appearance-but happens to score the one goal that achieves 5th position/or avoids relegation-more 'worthy' than a player who has played in 4 other games that month?

I think you're trying to complicate matters more than is necessary Michael. If a sponsor cant get to every match he takes note of the nominated players & reasons made for nominating by the fans on this forum.

He also takes into account reports from matches.Together with that he gives his own assessment on what he or she has seen.

A decison is then made.

It alleviates the need too for a poll which in the past has had intruders come in just to spoil the vote thereby denying a rightfull player his true reward.

Whoever gets the award they will have earned it I would have thought. I can't imagine anyone is going to give a decision that is way way off the mark.

Of course some won't agree but thats what happens anytime a vote or poll is made.

I am hoping those making the final decision (the sponsors) will do so for consistency and you need to have played a few games to get that under your belt.

This was just an idea for a return to an award that was once a regular award. It gives a player the opportunity of being recognised for his efforts over the month. It gives all players an "incentive" to want to be consistent. If we can get a consistent team playing week in week out (unlike other seasons),I feel pretty sure that we will see positive results more often than not.

Maybe the award should be called the "Consistent player of the month" award (CPM award) instead.

Personally I think it would give a decision based more on accuracy that the current M.O.T.M award does.

Lets not forget the M.O.T.M award is for 22 home games only & are more often than not given to a player scoring a goal having not contributed much else during a game (as in your scenario) when other more major contributors, more consistent contributors lose out.

Why not reward a player for his efforts over the whole month both home & away whether he scores goals or not.

Look if this award isnt wanted I won't bother with it. Simple as that.
