@Mark-Tommo go play on your playstation then

My views are as follows

- It's still holiday season, we'll all get a better idea of all clubs' crowds when kids are back at school. GFC is particularly affected by this at home as many parents take their kids to Footes Lane because it's a great family experience down there.

- GFC are so well prepared and did a pre-season that would put many Step 2 clubs to shame so they are are clearly ahead of the other sides now (I know what happened at Camberley and that was more of a mental challenge that GFC need to learn from). As other clubs play games and develoip fitness as well as settled sides, the gap will close. They haven't played some of the top sides yet so it's too early to judge.

- The people of Guernsey are a little tired of winning so easily, I know some in the UK doubt this but it's fact. Difficult one to address - victims of their own success or so it appears now. That said, the point I made above means that I think the season will get increasingly competitive as it unfolds. You've also got to consider that GFC will have more problems than other clubs with player availability - you only have to look at Chris Tardif to appreciate that some of the very best players may only be available for less than half of the away games if work/family commitments take priority as they inevitably do.

- GFCTV I'm a paid up subscriber. The service is priced about right for what you get and from what I've seen, I think the live experience isn't the best and though I'll watch it when I can, the highlights package is worth the money alone for me as I live in the UK. I don't think it will affect gates at Footes Lane or the attendance of GFC fans at games in the UK. They are a great bunch who are attracting more ex-pat Guerns who live in and around the big smoke and the experience (rather like it is for pro clubs) of "going away" is fantastic. As for groundhoppers, well, that's easy. So I guess opposition staff and players may be the ones GFCTV might attract - I'd think about it from a scouting perspective that's for sure.

I'd also add that GFC have, to date, always responded when they are put under pressure. Like the Camberley game, which I'm sure would have pleased many people and posed some early questions about their ability to travel away midweek and grind a result out. The response was emphatic, not just at home against Egham who are a decent side but also in the following game at Cove. They will have to do that a few times this season I'm sure, but in Tony Vance and his coaching team, they have got IMO the kind of people who Conference chairmen should be looking at - they may not be able to take up any offers that came their way but there is a lot those chairmen could learn.

I must be lucky then - only £2.99 per month for me

Looking at the website, I see it says £2.99 a month or £2.99 a game. Presumably depends on whether or not you want to set up an ongoing direct debit. The single game option I suppose would be geared to away fans not travelling to Guernsey, who may only be interested in their game.

  • 4 weeks later...

Keep seeing this 65,000 figure for Guernsey to choose from which is actually not the case.

Guernsey FC can only select men, so knock the female population from that 65,000. Then there are all those people who are too young, too old, etc. The number of players Guernsey has to choose from is actually far smaller.

Newby marvel i don't know where you heard about GFC players training 5 times a week. Some of these rumours that come out are bizarre! The only thing that might come close is that some of them may train with their local clubs too on the nights they aren't training with GFC. That's their choice I guess.

Anyway just wanted to make those two points based on what I saw on this thread.

First time I have posted this season. Judging by results so far there are a few teams that are in the hunt for the title, exciting stuff!
