Ian
Never as convincing a win as it should have been or the score suggests. Corinthians matched us for the first hour and it was only when we started getting space on the flanks that we really looked like the better team. Burnell and Sonner proved today that we don't need another striker...IF we get the ball out wide and put quality balls into the box. Burnell today I thought was fantastic.....and that's another pound we owe you as well! His early cross for Sonner's first goal was quite brilliant. I thought we were much better once Swifty and Mason came on. I was concerned in the first half about the amount of dialogue between the bench and midfield about where they should be playing. Surely that's worked out beforehand, isn't it??
readingrebel
Well, what a struggle that was! Made it really hard for ourselves and the first half must go down as one of the poorest seen with hardly two passes strung together. Like a total bunch of strangers with no link up play between defence, midfield and the forward line. After what must have been a real bollocking at half-time, the second half was much better with chances being created and taken very well by Sean Sonner and Danny Burnell. I was a bit mystified with the role Danny Murphy was asked to play and it looked like he was too! He started off left midfield and wandered anywhere between left midfield, central midfield and in the centre half position. I think the left hand side is turning out to be a real problem for SB. In the first half in particular Ollie Burgess looked isolated and over-run in a central midfield with Dave Deeney out wide right, Danny Murphy on the left and Adam Logie playing a holding role, which IMO left massive gaps in midfield for Corinthian to exploit. Was it really necessary to have Logie playing as a holding midfielder against Corinthian? Good win in the end and thru to the next round against Lingfield and without tempting fate a good chance to progress.

Rebel Yeller
Much better second half than first. First half we had no width and couldn't string two passes together - again. SB does need to sort out the Murphy/Rhone issue. Yesterday Rhone went left back and looked better - not fantastic but better - whilst Murphy, as stated above, didn't seem to know where to go. And again Dave Deeney was anonymous and this time was taken off. I've heard he has a bad groin problem but is playing through it. If this is true, then given his displays he might be better served by having a break for a few games. On another issue. I noticed Charlie Mpi scored after 5 minutes for Hemel, who are now top of Southern Premier. When Charlie was warming the bench for us 2 years ago, I would not have expected him to be now leading the attack of a side challenging for Conference South, even at this early stage. Has he improved considerably or did we just get the best out of him ?
Nathan
Burnell and Sonner proved today that we don't need another striker...IF we get the ball out wide and put quality balls into the box. I also think you're missing that we were playing at home against a lower league team. I know I've only seen the Guildford game, but to me the warning signs that Burnell and Sonner aren't the all-conquering partnership that some people are making themselves out to be. We have seen repeatedly over the past 2 years that they can and will be sussed by a half-decent defence who play together well and who do the simple things right. I still say we need a lot more variety up front!
Ian
On the contrary I think Sean and Danny have more than proved themselves at this level. Where teams have sussed us out is to stop our midfield and the service to them. Mind you, for the last two games I think we've stopped our own midfield let alone the opposition doing it for us. I'm concerned at players not really knowing what role they are playing or being played out of position.
Sir Rebel1965
That is a concern as a lot of the players have been together for a while and should have an understanding of who is where. Think we need Burgess and Mason as the two middle men as they will dominate the centre of the pitch and provide Sean and Danny with service and score a few themselves. Ian
I like Ollie Burgess as a player but he was one of the players who the bench were shouting at for most of the first half about his position.
3spirit
That is a concern as a lot of the players have been together for a while and should have an understanding of who is where. Think we need Burgess and Mason as the two middle men as they will dominate the centre of the pitch and provide Sean and Danny with service and score a few themselves. I think of Ollie Burgess and Leigh Mason as luxury players,in the fact of, they are creative players but poor tacklers/markers,who drift in and out of the game.Leigh Mason is great at finding the right pass/threading the ball through but he lacks speed and is slow at best.If you're playing either one,Burgess is the most flexible one in a positional sense,I think you would definitely need a holding midfielder or holding midfielders with them. IMO I would only play them together if Burgess was playing wide right with Mason through the middle.I think you would be asking for trouble from the opposing team.if you played them both in the centre of midfield but SB may have other ideas. Ian
I still think our midfield would benefit from a certain S.Bateman (the younger)!!
GarySTFC
There was a complete lack of movement from anyone over the half way line on Saturday, particularly in the first half. Nobody wanted the ball, nobody moving for it and as a result we played long which isn't going to be our strength.
