Karen Browne
With the transfer deadline window about to close in a week. Should the SSML follow suit of the big boys and introduce a transfer window?
tringarmy
Definately not, it would only result in players not getting a game to drift off to County / Local Leagues & if new players are unable to sign on it will just mean reserve games being called off through lack of players or playing with less than 11 or ringers to make up the numbers. Karen Browne
Reserve team football obviously cannot be included but in regards to your first point there is nothing stopping players not getting a game drifting off to County/Local Leagues in the current set-up. Winslow Boy
When is the cut off point now it's really close to the end of the season isn't it? I think it would make life too tough at this level players seem to come and go so much through the season you could be left really short

Quite right, but moving Leagues would be the ONLY option. I can't see the league or clubs for that matter wanting to introcuce one SSML signing on form for the first teams & another for the reserve league to be able to enforce this. Imagine a manager on a Saturday morning trying to call up some of the reserves only to realise that they'd only signed reserve team forms by the end of August. Certainly in the past at Tring we've seen youngsters step up from the 3rds to reserve to 1st team on the basis of how they've played through the course of the year or bring players across from the youth. Couldn't see it working at our level especially as you get a lot of players playing for a manager rather than a club. Was it Harpenden / London Colney last season where 7 or 8 players moved at the same time as the manager? We seem to have enough teams struggling to fill their sides just on local player availability without adding this restriction as well.
Loose
I can see where Karen is coming from. Reserves and bringing players through might need thinking on but isn't stability always a problem for a lot of teams in Step 5 and 6 each and every year? I know we have quite a few in management here and maybe transfer windows wouldn't suit you in the short term of being able to take your teams at a moments notice to a new club? No one's denying that you develop them and build the relationships but where is the middle and long term development for a club investing each and every season, scrabbling around for players mid season when some player, coach decides all of a sudden (after he's had a better offer) that his club have no H'ambition? We all know it happens and then leads to clubs dropping out, folding, points won or lost - at cost mind you of putting on games - are off down the swannee. Maybe you could call on "reserve signees" after they've played 5 or ten games or so.
