Tekkers - Knowing Luke from growing up together, he served his time and knows he made a mistake. He did nothing different from what I bet 90% of people who drink do, go out the night before and sleep for a few hours and get behind the wheel. Sunday footballers prove that! He can't change what he did and although he only served half his sentence, that's not his fault, that's the crappy law system we have in place. He lives day in and day out with what he did and always will until his last day, he was also on the verge of a £6M deal to Middlesborugh when this happens. Not saying he's entitled to feel hard done by, but everyone deserves a second chance no? He never went looking for football again and accepted he'd lost his career, but Swindon went to the courts and asked to take him on his one day release scheme but he's not signed for them.

He should be entitled to get back on with his life and carry on his career which he had previous, you saying if someone like me did that that I wouldn't be allowed to return to office work that I do? Marlon King is the same, yes he beat women up, but he has also served time. I don't see people saying Steven Gerrard, Andy Carroll, Craig Bellamy and John Terry should never be allowed to play football again after their incidents?!

This Guildford guy did wrong and I think he's regretting his actions, not being funny, but should it not be Guildford who are looked at for going back on their word which now looks like it was just to sweeten the situation?! Another culprit, the FA...the rules state 3-5 years ban right? So why are they not sticking by that?

Sorry if that sounded like a rant mate you know what I'm like, just stating that this kind of situation is like much of life, it's a spiral of false rules, laws and deception at times!

Yeah I know, but my point was a reply to Tekkers point. It's just how life is, anyway I'm done ;)

Nowhere in this thread have I said the Player has no right to return to Football. He does and he has,but back at Guildford? I did not write Mr. Masters or Mr Rayners comments in Get Surrey immediately after the incident, their quotes, were the Reason they were printed.Likewise Mr. Wards comments were made by him,yes the top man at Surrey F.A.,,3-5yrs was his quote, yet low and behold 18 months later the said Player is back Playing.Has he backed his Referees,I would say NO,which I feel is a shame, and he has let them down,by not following his own well laid downRULES.Which we are often reminded of on this site by our men in black, are the Gospel that we should all abide by.As for Guildford City maybe they thought at the Time, that they as a Club could be hauled over the coals for bringing the CCL League into disrepute, and faced an F.A.-CCL Charge for doing so.Mr Ward scotched that by his comments that they could not be held liable for the said Players actions. So hence the Topic heading say 1 thing to the press, and think another behind closed doors,TWO FACED IN MY BOOK!!!!!

The thing is if the lad has done his time then he can play wherever he wants, yes what he did was foolish but surely if Guildford want him and he wants to play for them then so be it,you can't move the goalposts now he has done his time if the judge had said you can return in 18 months but not for Guildford then it would of been different but he didn't so the lad can play where he wants and it don't matter who said what at the time talk is cheap.

Completely agree that is shocking.

We had a player a few years ago that was accused of head butting a ref during a 5-a-side. Despite over 70 witnesses stating that the player simply walked into the ref (obviously not acceptable either),the Hants FA banned the player for 5 years.

The strange part was the incident happened during a game and then ref carried on without stopping to receive any attention. First we heard of it was several weeks late when he had been to the doctor suggesting he had concussion and reported the incident to the police.

The police obviously didn't take the matter any further due to the fabricated story. Hants FA stated they followed their own rules and refused to acknowledge a police report and hence the long ban.

Very frustrating that there is no consistency between the county FA's.

Guildford fans strangely silent. In my opinion guy should be banned for life, disgraceful thing to do and just as disgraceful from Surrey FA issuing such a tiny punishment. Won't even comment on Guildfords change of heart from his never play for the club again.

Be Interesting to see if Tydeman has changed, the 3 or 4 occasions I saw Guildford he was sent off twice, once for fighting.

Shame this has taken the gloss off what has been an excellent start for them at a higher level.

Wattsey mate I didn't say that those mentioned shouldn't be allowed to play again, was just comparing seriousness of the McCormack case and the guildford city player case. However I understand that many agree people deserve a second chance. But if your honest and that was your child who had been accidently killed would your answer be the same! I have no doubts that he must regret what he did and I believe you when you say he does as you are as genuine as they come! I know a lot of football players and most believe they can do whatever they want, not all though!

History is littered with loads of throwaway comments that have come back to haunt. The fact that it involves Guildford City does not surprise me. I wonder what the Surrey FA's attitude would have been had it been a lower profile club? But nothing surprises me when it comes to any of the County FAs. I find the old boy / old school tie network utterly repugnant.

I can remember a few years ago when a lad from Cranliegh was banned for life for hitting a Ref in this league so they have had to deal with this sort of thing before,I must say I thought the ban this time was very lenient but that's not the lads problem he has done his time and that's it,his problem now will be the whole football world will be waiting to see if he slips up again because the authorities will come down on him like a ton of bricks if he does.
