Week 2 completed

AllStar

Recommended Posts

So after week 2 (league-wise) completed, there's currently only 3 teams out of 40 in the Combined Counties that remain with 100% record.

Prem: Badshot Lea & Molesey

Div1: Mole Valley SCR

Who now has a different view on the leagues this season, I agree with a older post that Molesey may be a force this season and top 4. Mole Valley held a Premier side and won both games in Div1 so far this season.

Guernsey beating Egham/Croydon at home but losing to Camberley away. Will mid-week games be Guernseys downfall to back to back promotions....

Thoughts?

I thought, at the start of the season, that Windsor and Guernsey would be odds-on for a top-two finish and they're currently in the top five. Cove look good and Badshot Lea have had a good start too.

Hartley Wintney are finding the going tough at the bottom of the Premier - just shows how tough the leap from Step 6 to 5 can be. Also, I bet Big JR is disappointed that his Dorking side aren't doing better. Still early days though.

AFC Croydon Athletic lead the way in the First Division, with Frimley Green, Spelthorne Sports and Farleigh Rovers looking like dark-horses to challenge them. South Kilburn have started strongly too. Staines Lammas and Knaphill are lagging behind, just a bit, but won't stay in mid-table too long. Surprisingly, with all the money they've been given recently, it's CB Hounslow United who are propping up the First Division. Relegated Banstead, Cobham and Sheerwater are still pointless at the moment.

However, don't forget that promotion won't necessarily mean the top sides will go up - there is the dreaded Ground Grading to consider as well.

Edit: As AllStar rightly says, Mole Valley SCR are currently unbeaten and could also be a dark horse!

Adam my friend, you have very much ignored one of the stats I gave you in the first post. Mole Valley SCR are currently the only team with a 100% record left in Division 1 and you failed to mention them.

They took one of the two unbeaten premier teams to a cup replay as well. If anybody, I think that there be the dark horses of Div1 this season it would be them, ground-hoping and reading this forum they have been over-looked by many 'senior' forumites.

Although I do agree with Guernsey/Windsor, however IMO i think that Windsor might win the title just because they can field there strongest 11 on whatever day of the week.

Depends what GFC team show up for it though!

That's when they dropped points etc last season. Some players can't travel to away games, some can't do midweek games away.

I believe Tardiff is one of those. Not sure however if this is the same situation this season

Tardif does not seem to do many if any mid-week games. But we have an able deputy in Paul de Garis. We have also used young James Hamon is is an excellent keeper but has not played this season. Darn good golfer too.

Dont forget Adam that the "Management" of HW left in the close season and took the majority of the promotion winning squad to Step 4 Thatcham.

It is no easy task to build a new squad from scratch to compete at a higher level - retaining Step 5 status will be a huge achievement under the circumstances

Couldn't agree more with the marathon not a sprint comment, however I have watched 3 div 1 sides this season & SCR have shown that 'marathon' spirit which has been required in each of the games, a winner in the opening game of the season in the last 15 minutes, a 2 legged affair with a premier side (which I unfortunately missed both games) however I did see them play Staines Saturday & come from behind twice to win a thriller 4-3. Definitely an underestimated side that I expect to make more than a few upsets this season.

Smudge my dear friend, you need to start practising what you preach. You can't tell others about its a marathon not a sprint when a few posts ago you were saying how your right about Molesey being one to watch...

After 3 games. MVSCR have 2 games this weekend, pop along to one and see what you think yourself?

All star, shame you have not been on here longer,my point about Molesey stemmed from them having 13 away games on the trot, which I raised on here when the fixtures were announced.Adam edited his post after yours,to include Mole Valley, reason he probably had never heard of Mole Valley.

The other day Bomaya said something regarding Molesey and you said something along the lines, don't quote me, about you said Molesey would be up there or something like that.

I think your writing off MV, they've got at least 8/9 new signings including 3/4 CCL premier players from last year.

I haven't commented on anybody else just MV. I think you need to watch them before you comment on them

AllStar, Groundhopper1 - make yourself known to me - i will be the rather bedraggled looking guy with a camera and numerous other things on the go - most likely to be found in the boardroom, or behind one goal.

We know what we are about this season, and with a young side, i still maintain that a top 8 finish is the most we can expect. Yes it has been a good start, and we do have a fighting spirit that was lacking for lots of last season, so we are moving in the right direction, but i dont expect us to be up their with the Eversley's, Knaphill, Lammas, Warlingham's of this world come season end.

On the plus side, it didn't take us 12 games to register a point this year
