Mark44
I agree with you WR. I think last season we could have done with one against the better teams but only because our pitch didnt allow us to play the free flowing football against the better defenses. This year with all the work swifty has been doing I think there will be less of a need for a big striker allowing us to keep it on the floor. readingrebel
Superb start to the season. Felt a bit sorry for the players in that heat though, I was boiing up just watching. One questiion for our forum armchair managers though: do we need a big striker? On that evidence I dont think so. Watch this space. One swallow does not make a ...... Summer WR. Nice teaser though WR, don't think so but watch this space!
Stuntman Mark
Good start to the season. Regarding the tall striker debate - if we play it like we did for most of the first half, smashing high balls up to Danny and Sean then yes, we need one. However, all five goals came from quick passing moves and good movement - personally that’s how I think we should try to play week in week out. Our front two have got a great understanding as they showed Saturday but we need to do them a favour with the type of service we give them sometimes. I think we went a bit route one second half of last season and that cost us the title in the end. Our football first half of the season was electric. I want to see us keep that going this year, the pitch has never looked better. Think I’d like to see Olly start in midfield on Tuesday, with the gaffer having to make the tricky choice between Dom and Murphs on the left. I was amazed we opted to use wing backs in that heat, at the start of the game,Windsor Rebel. On the big striker debate,I agree with Stuntman Mark, that our football was electric in the first half of the season but tailed off in the latter part of the season.I think that we need a larger target man type to complement the three other strikers and offer something different to what we currently have.Someone like a Paul McKinnon/Gary Abbot type of player, who can header well,is a nuisance to tall defenders and can hold up the ball to set up players running through. We then have the chance to play three strikers or two or even, one dependent on whether we're home or away, going for a win or a draw. Nothing is wrong with the three strikers we have but in certain games we are predictable and we are not going to get as much space, as we did on Saturday, when we play against some of the better organised defensive teams.
