A fair point, Smudge, but not true for all teams though.

I know for a fact that Gornal (WMRL) and Melksham (Western 1st Division) got promoted to their relevant Step 5 leagues without any money at all.

It was tongue in cheek redders.

Had high hopes for you boys this season but 2 defeats from the first two games means yet another poor start for the Knappers. How many points do you think you'll need for promotion this season, bearing in mind that it's unlikely 3 teams will go up?

I dunno mate, I was saying to newly the other day I don't know whose guna run off with the league. Obviously last year you had Bedfont and guernsey who always won games and they ran away even Hartley were quite clear. I honestly think everyone will beat each other this and quite a few defeats will happen as us and Eversley have already learnt. Ain't gotta clue how many points will be required but I think come end of the season I think 5-6 teams will all be close to promotion, I'm talking 2-3 points within each other. I'm not panicking yet but will be if we don't pick up against warlingham tommorow!!!

Quite disheartening reading some of these posts. If you've got a good coach and you train twice a week then you'll improve the players, simple as, so training is important. This is especially true with younger players.

I would also add that if the players can see you are improving them then they will all turn up, so then you can be fairly certain of who will / wont be at training. Clubs with low turnouts at training usually have some idiot running them in circles for no reason.

I think it says more about the standard of the coaching at this level if you dont see an improvement in the players...

Very well said, Luke!

Also, a key word (which has been mentioned on another thread) is respect. If the players don't respect the manager, they are not going to dig in and give 100%.

Agree with Luke, we have a regular 20/25 at training and the sessions are well run.working on all aspects.fitness, pattern of play, 5 a side and shooting.batesy has a good team around him and lets them coach but will work on particular things he feels we need.he's old skool and will run us on a Tuesday if we lose on Saturday (unless we have a game).

Is not match fitness a very important part of being a Footballer Pearcey. It certainly showed in Ray Parlour's case.

Matt Le Tissier was never the fittest of players (by his own admission) and yet he is a Southampton legend for scoring some fantastic goals over the years.

If you can balance fitness with skill, you may have the magic formula.

Was he still playing in his forties though? Fitness never used to be a key factor back in the day.Match day preparation, was 40 fags,10 pints,an a Full blow out breakfast.Post match they did ease off with the fags though.

I think Matt still plays the odd charity game - here's a clip of him playing recently:

That is a class finish.
