Squad numbers introduced for 2012/13 season

Hoping there will be a few signings tonight as time is running out. Talk about last minute. Assuming that we don't play with non contract players which would be an odd way to go for your preferred 11.

Not sure about squad numbers. At this level some teams might need some high numbers due to turnover and changing management/tactics through the season. I am sure we have used a large number of players in seasons past (especially goalkeepers!) and with teams at our level using non contract players who might appear once there are going to be a lot of shirts needed or are the numbers easy to remove!

What a stupid idea

I think Cliff Egan has already stated what the advantages are in the article. Good idea for the "bigger" clubs in the league, like Margate. Why should we be held back by other clubs.

I definately like this-brings the ryman more into line with the higher echelons of non leagu to which Margate surely aspire.

well done to CE for putting it forward and for getting it through .

Next thing-the club will be investing in one of those electronic substitute /added minutes display boards ( sponsorship opportunity ?? ) to give to the assistant referee.

a bit better than holding up little boards with red numbers on them

Don't worry about the sqaud numbers and player turnover - it's not the Premiership so as far as I'm aware, we can re-use numbers, otherwise the cost of replacement shirts could be a bit of a nuisance. Not only that, they won;t have their names on the back - just the same number each week. I don't see what's not to like.

Brilliant. What is not to like, I cannot understand the objections.

From a spectators point of view..I can see a dodgy penalty from 90 yards way, I can see "That was never offside!!" from 80 yards away...But who's that taking the kick?, who scored the goal? Who's that fast one down the wing? Numbers on shirts great news easy to spot, easy to identify. Names are good but sometimes are smaller due to their lengths, (and if you have a team of Smiths you could be in trouble), so numbers are good good for me.
