An informed source tells me that the club sold Simon Martin to Braintree on Saturday afternoon after the game for £3,000.

 

The chairmen of the two clubs shook hands in the boardroom, and our top scorer was gone.

 

Well. Until they bothered to tell Simon about it, that is. Apparently our flame-haired goal-machine refused to put pen to paper, and was still with us last night to add some respectability to our 9-goal embarrassment by Grays.

It looks like there's a clear out at City.

I wonder if this is to make room for a new set of players that are going to change our season around or to reduce the wage bill to match the plummeting gate income. I suspect the latter.

Why can't you believe that? Considering everything's that happened this season nothing surprises me anymore. Maybe it's a lack of faith in the board.

Obviously a change of manager leads to a change of some playing staff, but to off-load a proven goalscorer seems to me to be a backward step.

 

As for the three grand, didn't we have to pay five to get him down the park in the first place? Not the best bit of business, surely.

I'd rather he went for a free at the end of the season and helped us into Conference Div 1 before he went, than sell him now and fail to make the Top 14.

Cutting our losses as we're paying his wages each week. I can't understand why he doesn't want to play for City.

I would slit my wrists if I thought we'd have to go back to playing the likes of Wood and Dulwich.

 

It is imperative that we qualify for the Conference Division One.

9-1 defeats and the loss of players seems to suggest we're off to Champion Hill next season.
