team v Chesham

Difficult to know what to make of that apart from the fact Chesham will more than likely be up there in the division above and we won't be facing teams of that quality week-in week-out. We will be fine for next week and the defeat may even do us good.

First-half I thought we did quite well. Second half thought we were sloppy at times and were very much second-best. Defintely missed Sonner today as Abbey and Burnell did not get much service against their tall centre half's. A targetman still needed I think as on occasions we will come up against taller defenders like we did today and need an alternative at times.

Also I can't help feel in midfield (starting and subs) we have a lot of players who are very similar in their style and way they play. Take Chesham for example the likes of Watters, Wilson, Fotheringham and Wales are all very different types of players in the way they play and interchange brilliantly. Can't help but feel maybe in midfield we need a few different types of player in there at times to mix things up ie someone who gets into the box from midfield, or someone who runs at defenders from that area.

Agree with Chris on the game - made a good start and then when the subs got put on things did not work so well.

We have got a team that will be in the play-offs, but still not sure if we have a team that will go all the way.

Attacking we were only ok, but when we come up against a line of 6 foot plus defenders we will always come off second best, Sonner is the only current forward who can get up with the big defenders, the others will never win the balls, and second half we reverted to hoofing the ball up the park as we had run out of idears and Chesham then bossed the game.

Not sure if Bateman is clear who he will pick next week, as if you pick the top 11 players on paper they do not make the best team.

Back down to earth with a bump but plenty of positives to be taken from the game.

First half we more than matched Chesham and but for two blinding saves from the Chesham keeper we could have gone in at half-time at least level.

First half we failed to stop a cross coming in from our left back position with poor marking and then second half we conceeded a penalty which Warro saved only to be beaten to the re-bound and then gifted Chesham two goals by giving the ball away in dangerous positions in midfield.

I think next week the starting eleven will be the same but with Sonner in place of Abbey.

Personally I would like to see Mason in place of Logie because I think he offers more to the team in mobility and creativity.

On a positive note Chesham are a top 3 team in the premier division and I don't think we will meet a team as good as them next season.

Chesham do have a couple of things we don't have which is a big man up front and a mobile mid-field which we always seem to struggle with i.e. Bedworth.

Also I lost count of the times we punted the ball up-field to our diminutive forward line only for the ball to come straight back and put us under pressure.

Don't often disagree with you,Reading Rebel, but I do with your point about Mason replacing Logie.

I thought Adam Logie played well in that first half and Dave Deeney got stuck in,too. I thought Dominic Rhone didn't look at all comfortable on the left of the centre three. With Rhone missing often, our other central midfielders had their work cut out against the highly proficient Chesham midfield.

I thought we were very unlucky to be behind at half time,as Slough had the better of the 1st half.

Don't know what was said at half-time but we were pretty awful in the second half. Our tactics and general play were woeful.

I think Logie,D.Deeney and a creative midfielder out of either Swift,Burgess or Mason to start in midfield next week[if we line-up 3-5-2].My preference would be Stuart Swift. The biggest decision would then be who starts as left wing back out of Danny Murphy and Dominic Rhone.

Surprised we didn't push Rhone up front,as it was evident in the 2nd half that their defenders were in a comfort zone and Rhone's height and pace may have given them something to worry about.

Also thought Logie played very well Saturday 3Spirit. I'd still persue with the idea of Rhone on the left of the 3 in midfield though as if that clicks I think the partnership with him and Murphy could be potentially be great there if it clicks, but Swift is also another good option there. I just think it's worth giving it more than one match against a very talented Chesham midfield.

Chris,I think in a 4-4-2 Danny Murphy and Dominic Rhone look a very good partnership on the left hand side with either slotting in at left back or left wing.

Think Rhone seems more comfortable hugging the touchline.Funny enough, I thought on Saturday against Chesham, Steve Bateman had the option of swapping around Murphy and Rhone. We've never seen how Danny Murphy would get on in a midfield role.Danny Murphy is a fine footballer and can tackle,he also has plenty of energy and will take on a player.I would have thought he would be a useful player in this role.

I think Dominic Rhone would be wasted as a full back, he looks far too good a player attacking wise to spend too much time defending.

I thought it looked like Dom Rhone was given a free roll on Saturday. He seemed to be turning up anywhere from left, middle and right of midfield.

My one and only reservation with Danny Murphy's defending is that he does tend to tuck in alongside our centre-backs when we are being attacked which often leaves space out wide for wingers/wing-backs to exploit.

My concern is that we have the same 3 forwards as last season, and last season we did not score enough goals. If we had, we wouldn't be in this division now.

Keeper, defence and midfield are all more than adequate, despite the changes in personnel. But up front, Ben Abbey is a tryer, but is well past his best. Which leaves just Burnell and Sonner. A good combination if on form. But we all know that if Danny has one of his "sulky" days when he feels the world is against him, we are left with just Sean, and if he has an off game as well, we have no-one. By the law of averages, this is bound to happen, as it did last year ( e.g. Chalfont away, NGU at home, etc).

I too would like to see someone a little more physical up front, but I think that the main issue is that we just don't have enough forwards. Maybe Burgess, Rhone or NBH can go up front in a crisis, but they are not forwards, and this always shows. If every other team in the division has a rotten defence we might get away with it, but I bet they won't have.

Every season we have this problem, every year SB denies it's an issue, and every year he has to go and get someone. I wonder who'll turn up this year

I don't think last season's issue was not enough goals from the forwards. Ben, Sean and Danny all weighed in with their fair share. I think we suffered from two problems - one was not making enough chances. At times we struggled to create enough clear cut opportunities to kill off games. One things is for sure.....give those three chances and most of the time they will take them.

The other problem was it was pretty much only the forwards scoring and there wasn't enough contribution from midfield. I can see Dominic Rhone chipping in with a few this season but we need others to do likewise.

I'd like to see a different type of forward too but not because we need to change Sean or Danny. More because it will give us a slightly different option from the bench if in any games we need to try something different.
