If this Mr. Keeps has worked hard for his big homes and flash cars, then what is the problem?

Keeps had to desert his Black Country roots to do it though and do we know for sure that he has worked hard for what he has achieved or could it be 'ill gotten gains'.

Do you have evidence of this, Rhodes?

You and your family seem to think that money is the be all and end all in life and you're constantly boasting what you have, ie a high value home in an affluent part of Essex, two cars, two healthy incomes and bulging bank accounts. You're always bringing my parental abilities into question and I admit that I haven't been the best Father in the World but is it appropriate to keep ramming it down your children's throats and throwing pocket money at them.

I have always thought that people who continually brag about their wealth are usually very insecure.

IMO there's nothing wrong with anyone having a better than average lifestyle, as long as that lifestyle doesn't come by exploiting others.

b0llox!! hes rumbled me.............i once stole a copy of the Beano from the local newsagent and sold it to a mate for half face value - used the profits to start up my lucrative empire

You think THAT is bad?

In my old school, there used to be a large store room opposite the Main Office and Headmaster's Room. It was mainly used to house lost property (i.e. rugby shirts and shorts that had been left behind as well as exercise books and stationery), but it was also used as a dumping ground for packets of cigarettes which had been 'claimed' by the teachers as well as cans and bottles of alcohol.

In the twenty minute morning break, it was possible to sneak into this store room and pocket the daily 'contraband' and at lunch I'd sneak through a crack in the fence and make my way up to 'The Rec' which was a local club with a football pitch out the back. I'd sell the contraband on to some of the regulars and then get a roll from the local shop for my lunch before sneaking back into school and I'd then put the money in a piggy-bank at home before banking it once a month.

I remember one year that I was on a suspension from school, on the last week of Christmas. The school was, essentially, closed on the last morning of term and the lower school (Years 7-9) had gone to the Theatre in Newport and Years 10 and above had gone bowling. I made my way into school, through an unlocked main door, and raided the store cupboard of everything inside - there were loads of beer cans, lager bottles, perry, lambrini etc. and I struggled to get them all in my bag and out of school up to The Rec. I must have made over £50 that day - also got a bad back and bad neck for a few days after as well!

Lol! Quality banter there, Alan, fair play :)

Nope, but I did date a Liz Jones once - not a bad girl, but her parents were awkward. The sort that didn't approve of anything and anybody.

Broken Britain has been brought about by feckless fathers who don't engage with their children and fail to act as responsible role models

Loosely – That’s part of it I agree but also the likes of Keeps contribute to Broken Britain by giving his kids limitless pocket money, or if they want a new pair of trainers he just pulls out a wad of notes and peels off £100. I remember getting an old threepenny bit a week, or a sixpence (a tanner) if I was lucky yet I was as happy as larry and thought I was a millionaire.

As I said, having money shouldn't be a problem if you provide a positive role model and engage your kids in the right areas. I suspect Keeps must do this because I've met one of his kids and I couldn't recommend you a nicer young man. Also he obviously knows the value of things because he didn't mistreat any of the equipment or facilities unlike some others.

I never got ANY pocket money Rhodes, I had to go out and earn it. Blimey you must have been middle class or sumfink innit.

How is this Mr. Keeps (who is he by the way? I've tried searching on Google) contributing to Broken Britain?

If the guy is making his money legitimately, and it's not the proceeds of drugs or child-trafficking or child porn, then it's his business what he does with it.

When I was in school (Catholic Faith School) there were about three or four kids in the school who's parents were Masons. Very kind and pleasant kids, and they worked damned hard. One of my old classmates used to tease one of them that 'oh you're only rich because your Dad's in a cult' but they used to say 'we just do things for charity, we don't use it as a way of getting ahead.'

Plus, when I found out the sacrifices their parents made to give them a good life, I have nothing but respect for them and the fact that they regularly raise large amounts for cancer and youth rehabilitation charities.

It was mainly to buy packets of the Soccer Stars stickers in the late sixties and early seventies, I did the odd 'bob a job' and 'penny for the guy' which you never see anymore do you.

I contribute by paying to put my kids through uni - 1 a qualified teacher another in their final year - paying in excess of £30000 pa tax and NI contributions and employing local labour at a fair rate whenever possible ....pay tax and ni on these too.

Rhodes is very amusing for someone half a step above pond life but i defy him to find anyone who knows me that would accuse me of 'giving it large' where wealth is concerned

Those that really know me know how hard i work and the sacrfices i make for my family.........no different to any other parent - but Rhodes is not a parent as defined in the dictionary so he wouldnt understand

I've seen some threads go off topic, but this one takes the biscuit.

but has it?

Well it went off topic when someone started to claim that you were a poor parent because you work hard and earn more money than someone else in my opinion. I wonder who brought that up.
