Looking forward to the replay at Berko against Hoddesden, first visit to Waltham Abbeys ground must say it needs a bit of a tidy up. Good match lots of chances for both sides. Replay should be a cracker on Berkos comparatively carpet like pitch.

Missing a few key players today because of injury and holidays but the better team won.

Played at Chalk Lane, Cockfosters because of the requisitioning of Mile End for Olympic stuff. Another defeat of an ESL side by a team nominally at a level below them. SBU were their own worst enemies as, despite playing some neat football, their general arsiness got the better of them. They took the lead but were pegged back and then reduced to 10 men with a straight red for verbals directed at the assistant ref concerning a disagreement about a throw in. Several others booked on both teams as the ref didn't really help things by being a little bit fussy. Once Cockfosters took the lead Bengal had to chase the game and began to leave gaps which Cockfosters exploited when they could stay onside. One more goal in to to seal it towards the end.

 

The ground is never going to win any awards but is pleasant enough with some basic bench seating under cover though how robust it would be in a February gale is questionable. Didn;t sample the catering on offer as Cockfosters Road south of the tube station is awash with cafes and restaurants of different cuisines. Eventually decided on a delicious salt beef sandwich with pickles on rye bread over the tempting Greek mezze.

KINGS LANGLEY [0] 1 ST.MARGARETSBURY [1] 1 [FA Cup] Admission with programme £5/£4.Attendance;90 approx. The visitors took an early lead with Ricky Light scoring from 20 yards.Kings Langley came more into the game before half time and hit the cross bar.Although St Margaretsbury had chance to increase their lead it was no surprise to see the home team equalise near the end with a great goal from about 35 yards fom substitute Tom Carter.The ground is fully railed with a small stand with 2 rows of seats probaly about 100 in total.We stood on the bank behind the stand.It must be train spotters heaven here as trains seemed to run behind the far goal about every 2 minutes.
