dannyriding
Will probably get slated here but here is my take on tonights proceedings:- I thought the guys that were put on for the first half (excl. signed players) were there to prove their worth for CK - if you like the last roll of the dice for a contract. Not a brilliant performance by the boys in blue to be fair against a very fast (trialist) Horsham side that were also vying for contracts/positions in the forthcoming seasons team. The first goal was given to John Beales but the reply from Horsham was a defensive error on our part and really shouldnt have happened. Not a game to match the excitement of the previous PSF but to be fair to both managers this was their last run before probably making their minds up to "who" was in the final 18+. Margate did score the winner from Ola doouffy (sorry Im crap with names ) but to be fair we are a league above and have played/trained for an awful lot longer than them - will certain players get the nod or will they be shown the door I somehow think there maybe some real shocks to come and maybe some late additions, only CK knows UP THE GATE>>>>>>
Cookie
Good summing up.Spot on . Some players that were previously good & looked to be in with a shout of a contract probably let themselves down last night. There were a few times that these players gave a hint of what they can do but mostly those I presume who were on the cusp of being signed may well have seen their chances dwindled. We had far too many players out there last night that were getting caught in possesssion.Having said that, previous form in friendlies from some of them may have been enough for them to impress CK. Well see soon enough. Was impressed with Horsham and I'm sure they will be amongst the front runners in their league. I will add that two players who did stand out on the night,in my eyes, were Mr consistency,Mr Starkey. The one player that has surely earned a contract, easily. Will be an almighty error i.m.o. if he's not signed up and my m.o.t.m. Sam Long. Both class players and both a must for the team sheet. In defense we have security in at least two places for certain & thats Holloway & Starkey. With Beales playing well too and Ball (Who I'm led to believe hasn't signed on yet), together with Pooley at left full back we are looking very good & solid at the back. Now, its down to that midfield to be sorted,to play alongside Sam Long. Over to you Michael

Cookie
I Like the player but he was one of those that got dispossed all to easily last night. This has been a problem with him lately but yes,I agree, I still think he will play a big part this years rise up to the play-offs,despite that. Always wants to get the ball down & play & I like that.

Dolby & Bodkin were both caught in possession on numerous occasions last night from what I saw. On the other hand BOTH did something good too on occasions. Both have undoubted ability despite that & BOTH of whom I would like to see in a Margate shirt this season. Sadly I think Dolby might have ruined his chances last night despite having a smashing left foot, and being one for free kicks.Dolby is our new Wilson as far as free kicks are concerned (given the chance). What a curler he sent goalward last night. At Whitstable he was played on the right wing, cut in onto his left foot on numerous occasions and was magnificent. Last night he was played on the left and wasn't so good. Was dissappointed with him overall last night but I know there is better to come from him and he'll scare the pants out of defences as the season progresses, mark my words, again, given if given the chance. Cookie
Of those I havent been impressed with so far are Whitnell,Rhodes & Robinson. They need to up their game from what I've seen of them so far. Robinson in particular looks a shadow of his former self.

michael
I may be wrong-or maybe just wishful thinking; but i seem to recall that robinson has never shined in psf's but come the real stuff-turns it around'and looks really good;so whilst agreeing-i think Curtis will be just fine . A really good test last night-i imagine CK/JL did learn alot from that-Horsham were a decent side-just the sort of psf required. Agree with Cookie that Starkey is a must.-keeps it simple-is just an out and out sound full back-does'nt try and do anything he can't.Does'nt think he's ashley cole-just a good quality defender-a must for me. AS for Sam Long-first time i have seen him-but mightily impressed-how did CK manage to get him ? One of the best players i have seen in a Margate shirt for many a year-pure EFFECTIVE class with purpose. Thank goodness he is on a contract. If only CK could get a central midfield player of Longs pedigrree-my prediction of where Margate will finish-about 9th/10th -would leap up to top 5. Did anyone else not on a contract really shine last night-probably not -albeit Ball as steady and good as ever-and i thought stubbs had a good game again. So for me-starkey ,stubbs and ball- i'd still be inclined to take a chance on TCL based on where he has come from to where he is now-a big step up-but he could be 'work in progress' and if funds allow-the one 'risk player'. would have liked to have seen a bit more of alabi, and femi has'nt put a foot wrong in either the folkestone game or last night
Coffin Ender
Friendlies are mainly a way of improving fitness. Not much point analysing them.
michael
I'm not so sure CK and Jl would view the latter friendly games and in particular last nights the same way. If so-you may just as well look at players in training only

DEREK
Defence. Starkey, Ball/Femi, Beales, Pooley/Robinson Mid - Field, Long, Cornielle/Avery, Bodkin, Murphy. Forwards, Whitney, Rook. Player rotation and a good bench. A good season ahead "me thinks".

DEREK
Missed out a few, but is he any better than those mentioned ? don't be sentimental, just an honest assessment will do. If he does stay,I can only see him sitting on the bench, with the quality of players I hope CK will sign namely those i've mentioned does he really have a future at MFC. CK will decide once again, or rather the budget will.
