The visitors soon settled and looked dangerous on the left wing, and they drew level when the referee awarded a free kick 40 yards out and an unmarked WILL ANRTWI headed home from close range. Hornchurch thought they had leveled when Elliot Styles ran past the defence to head home from a well directed Joe Anderson free kick, but the goal was ruled out for offside. Shortly before the interval Joe Woolley made an excellent save from the ever dangerous Danny Green, who had raced through from the left wing. The visitors enjoyed their best spell of the match in the first twenty minutes after the interval, when they ran in four goals. Just four minutes into the second half, JAKE REED waltzed his way through the home defence to calmly slot the ball home, and it was JAKE REED again just five minutes later, with a similar solo run through a motionless defence. Hornchurch had the ball in the net from a free kick shortly afterwards but the referee ordered a re-take, and when Leon McKenzie headed home a few minutes later from a free kick, the goal was once again ruled out for an infringement. Dagenham & Redbridge went straight back down the field and were awarded a penalty, a decision which did not meet with the approval of either the crowd or the home players, and JAKE REED netted his third goal of the match from the spot. The fifth goal came from a corner, followed by a well placed header by an unmarked WILL ANTWI. Hornchurch made several changes, and the appearance of Jon Hunt stemmed the one way flow, and Hornchurch came back into the match, and almost pulled a goal back when Elliot Styles headed narrowly past the post from Hunt’s corner. Aaron Gayle then rounded his marker but his shot was well saved by Dave Hogan, who deflected the shot out for a corner. Martin Tuohy went close shortly before the end, though Hornchurch can have no complaints about the final result.
Hornchurch "O"
Another poor crowd considering the closeness of the opposition. Defenders standing motionless? Perhaps we should hurry up and take the Team Photo.
