Dover on Saturday

Nothing to do with the free admission, but if there was one psf i would have liked to have seen-this is the one.

I imagine both sides will play close to their starting league line-ups-and will be a proper test for margate.

I guess verdict so far on pre-season is 'so far'so good' but most recognise that friendlies are completely different to the real stuff.

If i read correctly-Forster has assembled a much more physical side this season-and it will be interesting to see how margate stand up to that.

The billericay's hornchurch's and braintrees have progressed from the ryman recently by having great physical presence.

You can play all the nice football in the world-but bullying tends to work well at ryman level.

We do seem to have physical prescence in defence-and thank goodness we have got Rook to add some forward beef.

Lightweight in midfield-but heyho-it almost worked for Spain-.

That Dover frriendly, will tell CK more than all the other psf's put together.

As long as it is not too hot-and is more than a 'stroll in the park',should be a good test today-won't do any harm to lose by a few as you learn more that way.

That given-assuming he is still on the scene-i particularly hope that Starkey has a good game against his old club (think there are 7 ex-dover players in our current 'squad' ) and that he gets a contract for next season.

I wonder if there will be a new name involved today who has'nt appeared in previous friendlies ?

whilst subscribing to the view that friendlies have no bearing on how a team will perform when it gets to the serious stuff-in isolation, have to say that appears to be a very creditable result today.

above all-no injuries i hope and some good learnings for CK and JL.

The way Margate are playing, they make the opposition look poor. Dover was performing the same as Bromley, and I'm convinced this is because of Margate s style of play, always pushing forward, playing the ball rather than hoofing. Confidence with the keeper and defence.

In fact the only reason it was a draw was down to a very poor ref who definitely had a Dover biases. Tommy Murphy had another good game fast and furious, disappointed Bodkin wasn't on from the start, but hey that my biases.

Still unsure who the squad is, if its to change or what, as we still have several bodies who i believe have not put pen to paper.

But everyone i'm sure is entering the beginning of this season with optimism. The first 4 games will be rewarding I hope. I'll put my neck on the line and say we'll get 12 points from the first 4 games.

I love this time of the season-have'nt dropped a point in the league yet.

The only small snag is that there are 21 clubs in the league where everyone is equally brimming with optimism this time of the season-and there are only two out of 22 who will have succeeded come April.

I seem to recall many were feeling the same 12 and 24 months ago only to be quickly deflated.

Just like our olympians-some crumbled/some stepped up to the plate-can they convert obvious decent form into effective winning football starting next saturday ?

I have no idea.

I wonder whether there was anyone from margate in that crowd of over 1000 who would be able to post a few lines on who shone on the day for margate ?

Tommy Murphy and Craig Holloway for me....TM not stop running, shooting on sight ok some went a wayward but a few of the 'wayward' ones will find the back of the net during the season. CH prob the best we have had for a few years commands the box, vocal some great stops....so there you go Micheal my personal view sure others will agree/disagree

Good report of the game I must say, describes it to perfection :)

The difference between this seasons friendlies and last seasons is the fact we have played so well against higher opposition, if I remember correctly last seasons were all against lower league oppents.

Tommy Murphy in my mind is having a cracking pre season and long may it continue into the league. Beales, as usual with Ball were great at the back, Starkey did well too.

Avery his usual solid self in midfield, Corneille & Long both did well. Rhodes, imo, had a bit of an off day, Whitnell showed some flashes but I till prefer Rook.

Holloway a great keeper the way he shouts instructions and commands his area.

Off the subs who came on, Bodkin shone the most and his free kick would have given us a deserved win if it had been a couple of inches lower.
