Must say a good performance from the boys today.

Should have won more comfortably with Lee Mason and Stewart Swift missing a couple of easy chances.

Again, impressed with Dom Rhone, Dave and Ashley Deeney, Liam Fowler, Warro and the defence in general.

I know it's only friendlies but I'm getting more confident by the day that we'll have a good shout for the title this season.

Trouble is you can never tell what's going to happen in the start of the league season by friendly results.

One season at Slough we won all our friendlies, only to go and lose our first 4 league games. In another season we lost nearly every friendly and then preceded to go off like a steam train and went and won the first 4 league games.Think we finished near the relegation places that year.

One thing I would credit Steve Bateman for, is that Dave Anderson was quoted as saying previously, that Steve likes to get the team going straight from the off, whereas Dave prefers to wind the team slowly into the season. May be that's why we got the result yesterday.

If you had to pick a team and the bench for the first game of the season, RR or any other fans, from the triallists, new players and remaining players[injured players included ie Dave Woozley]. What formation and line-up would you choose.

You can't read too much into pre-season, but was encouraged by yesterday. We were stepping it up a level against a side higher in the pyramid and thought we looked fairly comfortable especially as we were without Woozley, NBH, Burgess, Burnell and Abbey.

Think we restricted them to two real good shots, one in the first half which Warro saved well then an excellent save late on from a free kick. Considering we were without 2 of our normal back five we did well. Though Brown marshalled the defence superbly yesterday.

Great to have Perkins back. He will be an important player to us if he has signed as his versatility to play midfield or defence really helps us. Was also quite impressed by Fraser as well yesterday.

I'd go for the same team as Cookham Rebel, but i'd swap Murphy and Rhone around. From what i've seen I think Rhone could get 10 goals from midfield in that position, which is a position where we did not get nearly enough goals from last season. I get the feeling though that Bates will pick from either Murphy or Rhone when it comes to Northwood for the left wing back position.

Think this season it's great more players have had more game time this pre-season as in previous we've gone into the season where key players have only played 1-2 pre-season matches, which I think has cost us at times early on in the campaign (looking at Sutton Coldfield away where we tired after being 2-0 up and last seasons home game at Aylesbury).

You're right actually Chris, thinking about it I would swap Murphy and Rhone around too to be honest, I like what I see from Rhone and would still like to see him given a chance up front but I agree with you, I can't see Bateman starting both of them on the 18th!

I'll have to disagree, I think SB will start with Murphy and Rhone. I just can't see either of them being left out.

Definite starters If fit:

Warro

Brown NBH Fowler Murphy

A Deeney D Deeney Mason Rhone

Burnell Sonner

Subs: Swift, Logie, Burgess, Perkins, Abbey

Left Woozie out due to lack of match fitness.

We will also have to get a replacement keeper for Warro due to him and Brown missing the second and third games due to going abroad for a wedding.

Can't see Brown starting as a right back RR!

I agree,RR,I think Murphy and Rhone will start together. My question,CR, was what team would you play for 1st game, not what Steve Bateman would play.

I'm not keen on Alex Brown as a right-back.

I would go with a 3-1-4-2 of

Warrington

Brown NBH Murphy

Perkins

A.Deeney Logie D.Deeney Rhone

Abbey Sonner

Subs: Burnell, Swift, Frazer,Burgess and Woozley[if fit]- Fowler [if not]

My starting team would be as follows:

Warro

Brown NBH Woozley

A Deeney Fraser D Deeney Burgess Rhone

Sonner Burnell

I was very impressed on Saturday with our new players in particular Rhone who I think will be lethal down that left side and Fraser who got stuck in and wasnt afraid to work hard and win the ball so could work well alongside the more experienced Deeney and Mason.

A Deeney will do well down the right and in terms of strikers I havent seen anything that is better than Burnell and Sonner although i did only see Massey and Vassell on Sat.

The defence speaks for itself and I was impressed with Fowler who will work well should we rotate

Interesting that you have no Murphy in your team.

Also, do you mean Fraser could work well alongside the more experienced Burgess as Mason is not in your team or did you mean to have Mason in your team?
