Sock Tape

I can think of a few more important things than coloured tape & oversocks..

I think that's exactly the point! Stop frigging fiddling around FIFA!

Too right, get rid of Blatter and Platini and then we can look at the minor issues.

I thought we had already done this subject to death under the 'sock tape' thread. How such an insignificant change in the laws can provoke so much hostility is beyond me. No point in again going over the reasons why. Please just accept that FIFA authorised the change (I believe it may have been proposed by the Scottish FA) and CCFL as with all senior leagues have made it clear that referees are expected to enforce the changes. Agree with Mark-T on this. But if people really have to blame some one how about Ronaldo? Please, just move on - I can think of a few more important things than coloured tape & oversocks..

It has been discussed in depth yes, but this thread has been kick started and merged with the topic of 'supports'. Officials are now asking players to remove supports from their body as they're not the same colour as their kit. Now you have to admit that is stupid. It's not like they come in a variety of colours is it? You pretty much have Blue, White or Black. This whole colour matching thing is getting beyond a joke and the people that be have probably discussed coloured boots too!

I wear tape and have no problem with going by the law, I did find it odd at first, but hey we just go with it, nothing will change. What got me when I played in a charity game Sunday was that I couldn't wear dark blue tape over dark purple socks.....Someone care to tell me where I buy purple tape to keep my pads in place? I'll buy the right colour tape but won't buy new bulky shin pads that go over the ankle because they're horrible to wear.

Going back to your post MiddleMan, what is your take on the muscle supports situation?

This law change was one of several made for the 2012/2013 season. Most of the changes are very technical & do not relate to football at CCFL level. However, the dreaded 'tape' issue does as does the change that effectively stops a goal being scored directly from a drop ball scenario. There is nothing that has changed around wearing of supports. So long as they do not represent a danger to the wearer or others then not a problem - no matter what colour they are. I did take the precaution of just double checking this at County FA level and it has been confirmed. If the referees involved are CCFL, suggest your club secretary sends an e-mail to the league who might consider issuing clarification.

You can get clear tape that will "cover" any coloured socks.

I would love to speak with the secretary, but this was during the Newcastle V Spurs game I went to see on Saturday. It was right in front of us and Santon of Newcastle was asked to remove his flat thin elbow support....Very odd!

Thanks for clearing up though

Nope, didn't clash IMO, but it was right in front of where my seats are and heard him clear as day say it's because it wasn't black or white like the kit
