I heard a player in a friendly yesterday being told by a referee during a discussion about sock tape colour that he wouldn't be allowed to wear his black knee support with his blue kit?? This surely is rubbish???

Very true I would imagine! At St James' Park Saturday Davide Santon got asked to remove his blue elbow support for what I can only imagine was because it wasn't black and white!!

 

I'm wondering how long it will be until goalkeepers have to wear the same colour gloves as their kits!!!

Well that was exactly the problem with this silly new rule. They brought it in to help officials decide on corners etc and yet two players both wearing black boots (unlikely these days I know!) is apparently fine and dandy.

Gotta be honest, I know it's sounds like a silly pain in the arse rule, but I think it will smarten everything up, some sides can look like rag arse rovers with all the different colours on the socks. And let's be honest, how difficult is it to just but a different colour of tape? I mean your buying tape anyway, just buy a different colour.

I thought we had already done this subject to death under the 'sock tape' thread. How such an insignificant change in the laws can provoke so much hostility is beyond me. No point in again going over the reasons why. Please just accept that FIFA authorised the change (I believe it may have been proposed by the Scottish FA) and CCFL as with all senior leagues have made it clear that referees are expected to enforce the changes. Agree with Mark-T on this. But if people really have to blame some one how about Ronaldo? Please, just move on - I can think of a few more important things than coloured tape & oversocks..

Referees loath having to uphold these illogical directives. Rubs players and club officials up the wrong way before a ball has even been kicked. They are penalised if they don't adhere to them. Don't blame them. Never seen a corner / goal kick wrongly awarded because of tape. Ankle sock length is getting a bit daft though.
