as footballers have superstitions (and i am one of them) i have worn white socks over my football sock for as long as i can remember, so why get rid of it now.

dodgy refereeing decisions is all part of the game surely ;)

V7 - don't complain then if the referee asks you to remove the socks!

And Smudge there is no issue with players wearing black socks if they form part of the clubs registered colours. Of course, match officials will expect away teams to change to ensure no clash of shirt, shorts or sock colours.

Good luck to all CCFL players. Here's looking forward to a competitive and sporting season.

There is an easy solution for all teams, regarding this matter.Wear White Socks at Home,Black Socks Away, then you can go down the Sports shop, and buy yourself as many pairs as you like of over socks.Likewise insulation tape is readily available in Black and White,is shiny black tape allowed though?

For those old boys on here, i just wanted to set the scene a little as to why there's a new "fad" of wearing lots of tape.

The majority of the time, it's not to hold the sock up, but to have the shin pad higher up the leg, and leave more room between the ankle and pad, which feels lighter and therefore increase pace and endurance ( allegedly)

As tackling has been outlawed in the modern game, you can wear a playing card size shin pad now, when of course your shin is significantly much bigger than that. Without the masses of tape, it would slip down, and become a nuisance. I also can't remember the last time i saw a player wearing an all in one, with velcro built in.

Obviously not all officials are aware, the game I watched Saturday everyone had white or black tape over blue socks and red socks. I think this'll be one of those laws which only 'some' will enforce.

Just my opinion though, time will tell

Dom the pros do it because they cut the feet off their socks and replace with thinner trainer socks then tape over to join. Players at this level are just imitating for fashion purposes as I assume no clubs are allowing them to cut the feet out of their socks. Just another instance of people being sheep, and not really knowing why they are doing what they are doing. Whenever I see tape, coloured boots, Thierry Henry style socks up over the knee I just think you are begging to get smashed lol

I have just read this...Newport IOW had a player sent off last night. He was wearing undershorts that were a different colour to his main shorts.

The ref asked him to leave the pitch and remove them.

The player returned to the pitch with the offending shorts removed.

The ref asked to check, the player responded by lifting the leg of his shorts, only for the ref to be greeted by the sight of the 'last turkey in the shop'.

Ref instantly produced the red card.

from newport forum, regarding the red carded player

He removed his shorts 20 mins into the first half.

Then when we came back out for the second half the ref checked he hadn't put his shorts back on when he lifted his shorts to prove he hadn't the ref showed him a straight red for indecency

To be fair, if he exposed himself then that is a definite red card, not what you want your kids to see...
