The Mayor Of Simpleton
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/horseracing/9431790/Hereford-and-Folkestone-racecourses-forced-to-close-down.html Just been announced in the last hour. A major shock, as Hereford has always been full when I've been there! I hope that both racecourses can be saved.

Rhodes
The unscrupulous owners of historic Hereford racecourse, which has hosted racing since 1771, say the reason for its closure is an inability to extend the lease from Herefordshire Council however the lease still has, wait for it, 17 years left to run. The Local Authority were as amazed as everybody else by the decision and in a statement said 'at midday today representatives came to see us to inform us of their decision to close, this was the first we heard however the lease has 17 years left to run and the Council remain willing to discuss options for racing in Hereford. This is clearly a business based decision, we understand they have been running at a loss over recent years'.
missunderstood
One of my sons had his stag do at Newmarket, the first and only time I have been to a race meeting. Possibly the most horrible day out I can ever remember, and about as interesting as watching paint dry.

Maybe the racing fraternity will come up with the pennies ! ............ and whilst on the subject of horse racing, I've just read a hilarious snippet regarding a new race-horse owner who objected to all the pomp and dressing up of racing, so named his new horse, 'My Face'. He went on to say that the greatest racing day in his life was at Ascot, when his horse was pushing for the line to win, and all he could hear were snooty be-hatted women who had backed his horse, shouting out loud...................... "Come On ** **** !!" Absolutey hilarious !

I like to have a bet on the horses in a bookies but agree that actually being on course at a race meeting is like watching paint dry and grass grow put together
The Mayor Of Simpleton
I will miss Hereford Racecourse, had a few big wins there (£800+) I wonder if Hereford United might see this as an opportunity to move away from Edgar Street?.... Hornchurch "O"
Folkestone is closing as well. Same company blame refusal of planning permission to improve facilities.
