Karen Browne
Will all clubs please note:- FIFA brought a new law of the game into being for this season - not sure if it has been circulated to clubs, match officials etc etc. But, at the Leverstock Green game today there was a pre-match problem over it...... both teams got caught out. Any tape used on socks (stockings) must be of the same colour as the socks themselves. It is now illegal to wear a colour tape that is different from the sock colour. The referees should be insisting on clubs keeping to this rule, even though (perhaps) clubs have not been notified officially by either their League, or their County, or the FA. X man
The officials at ampthills game last week told all the players before they went out .
petethegreek
Law 4 - Players' Equipment Stockings - if tape or similar material is applied externally it must be the same colour as that part of the stocking it is applied to. Reason An increasing number of players are using excessive amounts of tape externally on their socks. This can be a multitude of colours and can completely change the look of the sock. This can cause confusion particularly for assistant referees who may need to look at the sock to determine who last played the ball before it has gone out of play. Karen Browne
Not questioning their decision Peter. Just awaiting the next batch of rule changes. All shirts to be tucked in at all times. Players boots to be the same for the whole team. Players hair to be no longer than four inches.

Don't you kinda feel sorry for the Assistant Referees with all those players running around in their tape which isn't the same colour as their socks. Bess them! btw If a team is wearing hooped socks, say red hoops and white hoops, then the player has to use red tape on the red part of the sock and white tape on the white part of the socks. That is how we got round it today. Fortunately our socks have a sky blue and white hoop at the bottom and the boys covered the white part. We wont be finding any Magenta electric tape in Wickes or B&Q!

Uncle T
Well I am it is another stupid intrusion on the game of football. There is no need for this change. It makes the referees job again a little harder, another check. There is no health and safety issue either, just the authorities not understanding the game their are administrating. Another expenditure for players and clubs that is not required. Has Pete says what if there are hooped socks etc. Again I guess you cannot play if the colour is not right why it causes no issues over the last 150 years?? Rant over!! FIFA & FA have kept soccer in the dark ages by not embrassing goal line technology and the 4th offical communication which will go a long way into getting major game changing decisions right, but on a wim come forward with a petty sock tape ruling which will cause confusion and resentment towards officials, who in all probability also feel it is an authoritarian, unecessary, and burocratic over the top rule. Mayhem rules again!
Winslow Boy
I would say the tape round the ankles is players at our level simply copying something they've seen on the tele. The Premiership boys do it cos they cut the feet of their socks and wear trainer socks and use the tape to join and cover they feel te trainer socks feel better and give them more control than the thick feet in footy socks. I assume no SSML player is cutting his socks up so they are just doing it cos they've seen it. Like when Patrick Berger wore a headband or Cantona had his collar up, fowler and his nose strips all of a sudden players are doing it all over

Uncle T
I think all players should shave before they play and the match officials should check every chin for smoothness, then they should check for hair cuts and measure the length of hair. The hair MUST match the colour of the shirt so that the officials can see who has headed the ball. I think nail varnish should also be the same colour has the shirt too. These can be added to the 100 checks they do now and we then have to have the players out for checks 30 minutes before the game. Ha ha ha!
